The 4x weakness to Ice though can be really severe. Especially when facing a Shell Smashed Skill Link Cloyster.

I'm a fan of the original three legendary birds (Moltres, Zapdos, Articuno), Houndoom, Arcanine, and Chandelure.

If I had to pick a starter, I'd have to go with Piplup for Empoleon.

Now if we were selecting just starters hands down I'd choose Cyndaquil. Typhlosion is almost as close to my heart as Marowak and probably more so since I actually use Typhlosion. Not to mention it carried me through my Nuzlocke.

It's Torchic for me. Generally I love first generation pokemon and dislike anything newer, but I fell in love when I chose Torchic for my first Emerald game. I mean, its just such a cute, dorky loser chicken thing that turns out as some kind of bad ass fighting pokemon ready to kick everybody's asses xD 

 

Also, psychic pokemon in general, with a soft spot for abra.

Zapdos was my favorite back in the first few gens. I loved its design and electric-types were among my favorites.

 

Zoroark and Glaceon also get credit for favs from use in their respective gens. Zoroark carried my team through Black 2.
