First of all, I want to thank you guys for an incredible first round of Photographica. I was blown away by the number and quality of the entries.
You brought tears to my eye. Almost.
The winners, then!

Bless his heart, he thought the birds were out of place, when in fact they were the cornerstone of the whole composition. As many commenters noted, the addition of the birds to the geometry of the background added a flavour and story to the photograph that the windows alone could never have managed. While I would have preferred a narrower depth of field, with the birds more in focus, there's no question that this is an accomplished piece.
And by Sweenlection:
11) @Applepi
I like the decision to make this piece black and white, as the original would have been two-tone anyway, and I would imagine the compostion appeared drab with the original contrast. It's tough to get curved compositions to work in a pattern-based brief, as the eye tends to prefer angular geometrics. However, Applepi made it work, with the aisle lying along the upper third, and the image lines leading perpendicular to the motion of the eye.
You both earn the Photographica award, and the opportunity to submit judgements on next month's Sweenlection winner
Speaking of which:
Tadaa!
Regrettably, I did not have time to do full feedback for this month, as Nymh and I are in the middle of a desperate apartment hunt. I promise to do better!
I hope everyone and more enters for next month, the theme for which will be Portraits.
