Thanks, guys, for another awesome round of Photographica. Some really, really incredible entries!
And, as an additional note, sincere apologies to @arcanum and @Leeroy, who were saddled with the consequences of my missing their entries in my inbox.
Really, really sorry, guys!

The winners, then!

By public vote:
3) Uh... me

Entry3.jpg
This is mine, so I'm not going to wax lyrical :p But I just wish I'd noticed that chair-back in the foreground when I took this -_- Thank you guys ^_^

And by judge selection:
11) @arcanum

Entry11.jpg

11) This picture captures the true spirit of childhood. I love that the subject is offset and his face is partially hidden.

#11 - such a cute kid! i love the contrast by the old man sitting there and the youth and playfulness displayed at the foreground. i enjoy the details in this too like the freckles on the kid's face and the birthmark.

This photo has a great quality to it. The depth of field is spot-on, and the contrast in subject between fore- and background sets this apart from the other entries thematically. Plus, the subject's expression is candid and evocative of childhood.

We both earn the Photographica award, and the opportunity to submit judgements on next month's Judges' selection :)
Speaking of which:

Tadaa!

I hope everyone and more enters for next month, the theme for which will be Contrast.
(Bonus motif tbd ;))

And the rest of the wonderful entrants:

congratulations winners! :D mind telling the story behind your photos pleaaaseee? :x3:

some of these photos make me question what portrait means, btw. xD i thought portraits are strictly face shots and not to be captured in landscape orientation. :p

no particular story, my kid cousin loved playing with this little toy guitar he had (we got it from a garage sale) and I thought it was a fun picture for my photography class. I zoomed super in b/c it made it look almost like he was a performer or something. When I was processing the film, I upped the contrast to give it some drama and developed accordingly :)

I agree with you on the subject of "portrait" but I can kind of see how others may understand it differently.

EVERYONE ELSE: Tell us yo stories!

The story behind mine:

I guess it was about six years ago, my family came to visit me (I had moved 2hrs away from home, first time out of the house) and meet my boyfriend. We went to a BBQ restaurant, and before my boyfriend got there, my siblings and my best friend sat in the booth with me, and only left a place to sit in the booth with my parents.

Basically forcing my boyfriend and his best friend to sit with them. xD So the picture is of my little brother, definitely a devious laugh going on in the picture. He thought it was hysterical, as did all of us really, except my bf I think.

I wish he was still that little. He is about to be 16!!! :crybaby: and he is driving now, its so crazy.
