Roses are red
Violets are blue
I have no idea
Of what to do

Where The Path May Lead
Go not where the path may lead,
But where there is no trail,
Travel through the tall tan reeds,
To find yourself a tale;
The tale need not be unique,
But must be close to heart,
Let your mind find what it seeks,
Throughout the light and dark.
When your mind and heart agree,
You know you have your fame,
Sharing is the greatest deed,
And is a writers’ game.

Lady in Blue
The blue skies of summer
call to me,
call to us.
They summon us outside
to partake in the gentle breezes;
the warmest of days and
the silkiest of nights.
Today,
the shaded hiking trails;
tomorrow,
the Beach of the Sun.
O
Mother of the Earth and Sea,
the Moon
and the Stars in the Sky;
call upon us,
Your Michigan children,
and remind us that
Your Great Lakes
await us once again.
O,
Lady of Us All,
look for my smile
in Your magick mirror
as You don the blue gown of Summer.
Listen for my laughter
as You once again try on
Your sapphire and silver crown.
Meet my gaze
as I count the stars,
and bask in Your glorious moonlight
once again.

Why does light, be stronger than the dark,
And never make us scared,
Never make us fear nor cry,
Perhaps it never dared.

I’ve got pepper spray
Just in case
It makes my heart beat fast
I feel like I got a secret power
I’m too eager for an excuse to use it
Should I walk alone in a dark parking lot
An unsuspecting person might think
Oh look at this one, I’m gonna get ‘er
No way, pal, I’m gonna get you
I’m gonna get you good
I picture it in my mind
I fantasize
SPRAY SPRAY SPRAY
RIGHT IN THE EYES
The wail of pain sings out in harmony with my diabolical laughter
I forget the part about calling the police
All I care about is the song
I used to carry around a box cutter
I’d have it in my pocket
I was eager for an excuse to use it
I picture it in my mind
Should I walk alone in a dark parking lot
An unsupecting person might think
Oh...
Too late
I’ve not given them time to think
STAB STAB STAB
RIGHT IN THE STOMACH
Warm sticky blood covers my arm
I use it to paint my face like some savage
I lick my lips
Salty
I raise my arms in victory
I howl in the night
There's lightning and thunder
It’s like the Quickening
Back to reality
I’ve never had to use the pepper spray
I’ve only used the box cutter for cutting boxes
Don’t feel ill at ease
It’s only thoughts
I'm prepared
Just in case
Whenever we need to put a nail in the wall
Safe at home
I ask if I can do it
I like holding the hammer
I imagine it would hurt really bad to be hit with a hammer
BAM BAM BAM
RIGHT IN THE HEAD
When I'm asked why I'm smiling
It's because I'm happy

=Recall=
I once told a wide-eyed child how much I fear
the world. How I lay down at night, my face
sinking deeper into my roasted pillow as though,
if I dim the glow of my phone—
descending from the puffs of silver-lined smog
I could rest easy, contemplating
each star overhead as a beloved moment. Yes,
you said, but I will leave you. And I, being young,
replied, at long as we have this moment forever.
Older now, I drink diluted wine, letting
the downpour drown my irises outside my window,
my humming Mac, empty glasses, apple slices,
comics, debates, the summer sun dripping,
dusk befalls the empty lot
across my drive, chocolate, aspirin,
a good laugh, my friends and former lovers,
memories worn thin as film played endlessly—
and writing this tells me I shouldn’t
hold myself back. But in the midst of all
I want and love, I can scream until the walls tumble
inward. And still not get a response.

Little black ants
and one red
Swarm the beast
The red gets confused.
The tide has turned,
the beast escaped.
Black sees red,
in more ways than one,
Surprise attack!
Kill the red bastard.
