Damion thought of his captors, but he couldn't remember their names, who they were, hell, what they even looked. All he knew was that had to escape. For a long while now, Damion had been gathering the strength to make his grandiose break out.
It had started slowly at first, just gathering enough strength to move slightly, then the ability to move his arms. Lately Damion had somehow gather the energy to kick out. It had started in his sleep but when he awoke from his nightmares, which bizarrely consisted of people laughing and talking about him, he realised he could summon the inner courage to lash out at his cage.
BANG. BANG. Bang. It was no use though. With all his strength he kicked out the walls of his enclosure. It wasn't easy with the large binding around his neck. It made him struggle to breath, but he managed. Damion was a fighter he over heard his captors say. "I'm more than just that" Damion thought. "I'm going to change everything, just you wait.
He confinement was awful, it smelt bad, so much he felt like regurgitating everything he ever consumed. The floor was wet, soaking in an unknown fluid. Sometimes Damion wondered if it was rain from the outside, but he didn't want to dwell on what it could be.
Damion pondered to himself, revolving his thoughts around what the outside was like. He couldn't remember what sunlight looked like, what the cool breeze on his face felt like. His memory was so hazy he began to wonder if he had even experience them to begin with! "No, that's just crazy!" Damion thought to himself.
As he was thinking, a large earthquake shook his small, confined space. It had been occurring regularly for some time now but this one was different. It as bigger, more destructive and noisy. Shaking, collapsing around him, the bottom of his cage collapsed releasing a blinding white light into his cage.
This light, the only light Damion had seen for an age, penetrated his soul. It was welcome more than anything he could want, but at the same time terrifying. The light represented freedom, but it could also mean death. It could mean life, but it could mean being trapped again, just in a different location. Such confusing thoughts and emotions led Damion to bawl. He wept like he had never before, releasing his soul into the atmosphere as he fell into the giant gaping hole at the bottom of his entrapment. His noose unraveled, letting him slip down. The light shone over Damion, eclipsing him and every fiber of his being.
He felt someone pick him up and heard a soothing voice. "Congratulations, it's a healthy baby boy."
.AND SECOND PLACE IS @Speedracer
The ringing in his ears was from the far away tornado sirens, they went off right when had gotten home from a long day at work. He had tried to run to the basement, but it was already too late the roar of the tornado was right outside. Debris began flying through the house then something smashed through the window, a sharp pain then nothing. Damion removed his hands to look where he awoke from; a broken board from his fence had stuck him rendering him unconscious. A soul piercing thought came into his head not his fence their fence, the simplest thoughts often have the most powerful implications. Where was his wife? His eyes darted back and forth through the room searching for any indication of her, then he saw it a small puddle of blood by a collapsed wall. “Fyora” passed across his lips almost silently like a whisper of a terrible secret. The blood was too far away from where he had been struck to be his. His heart sank as he rushed over, immediately pulling away boards and pieces of wall from the pile. The minutes crept by like hours as his strength waned, the closer to the bottom of the pile he reached the larger and heavier the pieces of debris became. Finally under what must have been part of the bookcase, he found her motionless. “Fyora” first in a quiet gasp then again with a sense of urgency “Fyora!” Damion practically yelled as he grabbed her shoulder. Fyora slowly lifted her head, her face pale and drained, smile at Damion “Sorry honey, but I don’t think dinner will be ready before the game starts”. Damion had to laugh to keep from crying. She was breathing very shallow and he could tell she needed to get to a hospital as soon as possible. He removed the rest of the debris and pulled her out into a clear part of the room. Damion inspected her wounds, she had a deep gash on her leg, what he thought were a few broken ribs, and some pretty nasty bruises. He looked for an escape and found that the front door only had a few things blocking it. Damion threw his body into the door, breaking it down escaping the giant pile of rubble that was once their house.
Outside there was chaos and disaster everywhere he looked. Damion rushed back inside to carry Fyora out to safety. He picked her up in his arms and began to wander towards the sirens, towards town. Fyora’s breathing was getting worse all of the color in her face was gone, so he ran as fast as he could while carrying her. He couldn’t lose her not like this, not now. It began as just a speck in the distance getting larger and larger a bright light. Damion collapsed his legs wouldn’t carry him any further, he couldn’t save her. “Fyora I love you” as he kissed her forehead. The bright light kept growing, flashing across the horizon. The haziness returned to his head, Damion could feel himself slipping back into unconsciousness. The bright flashing lights had arrived they were going to be ok the ambulance had reached them."
