Oh gosh yeah, my mom worked in a nursing home.. And a miserable seeming one at that. It was always nice, well decorated, and looked.. Home-y but you would not believe.. Multiple residents have literally put themselves on train tracks, just to get it over with. My mom still works in that field but now she's on to other stuff, I couldn't put up with stuff like that. To be honest, it is completely in anyone's right to end their life as long as they have the cognitive ability. It shouldn't be this way, especially for the elderly who literally wish they could just die right then and there. It should be a option offered to anyone, anywhere. I remember distinctly a woman asking my mother to overdose her meds in a effort to die. 5 months later, said woman died from turning septic :(

honestly.. it's your life in the end, so if you want to take it, nobody should stop you. especially if you've got a terminal/extremely difficult to live with illness or disability. idk why people try to get their nose up in this, considering plenty of people who need help but don't receive it die from other illnesses/causes every day. like.. concentrate your life-preserving efforts there, buddy.

If a person's quality of life is severely lacking and shows no signs of improvement (like a terminal illness), I think death with dignity is completely appropriate. A painless death on one's own terms and maybe help with sorting out affairs beforehand is ideal imo.

What if someone is very mentally ill and has a low self-considered quality of life that shows no signs of improvement? People with mental illness are in enough pain mentally/emotionally, often enough to commit suicide.
