Here is the video:

"Orange Is the New Black" star Lea DeLaria went off the rails on the D train in NYC Tuesday morning ... verbally attacking a bible-thumper who was holding commuters hostage to his rants.

A lot of people are saying she is in the wrong for telling him he has no right, because he has freedom of speech. There are also a lot of people who are standing with her, saying what she did is right.

Thoughts?

I don't think that was necessary. Just ignore the man and let him talk.

Yes, actually. After @Adam told me to make the board instead, I decided tonight would be a better time to do so. :shifty:

@Swarley I agree. I think she went a little overboard, and maybe its just because I'm not a very confrontational person, but I would've just ignored him as well. No reason to cause a huge scene.

That lady must be on crack or something. Which person was supposed to be the nuisance lol? I agree that he should have just ignored him if she didn't want to listen to him etc! :p

He may have free speech but he doesn't have the right to try and hold Church on a subway and shove his religion down my throat. She could have handled it better, yes, but I am one of those who believe she was right to stop him.

May I ask how you would've handled it?

I'm not religious or anything, but I don't see how he doesn't have the right as a human being to read from a book out loud, whether he is "trying to hold church" or whatever, it still comes down to free speech, yeah? If you don't want to listen, put in headphones, ignore him, what have you.

I agree, it falls under free speech. She could've toned it down a little and/or opened up a dialogue with him. But verbally berating him was overkill.

He has the right to speak, but I don't think he has the right to force it to everybody else. I would have handled that a little better, but there's a lot of this story we haven't seen so I can't make a sensible conclusion.

The constitution doesn't always hold much weight these days so legally I'd say he may or may not have had the legal right in this situation. If he went to court for this in this day and age it's hard to say what would be decided.

But apart from the legal, I personally and certainly think he should have every human right to speak how he wants to. Even if someone doesn't have headphones they can plug there ears and learn to chill out. :p

Random question, but has anyone ever done this with the Koran, Torah, or any other religious text that isn't a Christian bible?

Seriously. We get these types of nuts all the time on our campus trying to indoctrinate students on their way to class. They call girls sluts and tell them to cover up while ignoring all the guys who walk around campus shirtless. It's fucking annoying, no one wants to hear that shit when theyre just trying to go about their day.

Also free speech gives Americans the right to not have the government restrict your speech. Other people are well in their rights to tell you to shut up, that's not violating anyone's rights.

This. MUH FREEZE PEACH lol

You have the right to speak but I also have the right to call you a twat.

As for the video, she has the right to speak as he does, so I don't see the issue.

I agree with this, but the fact she was telling him he had no right is what irks me a little.

Lol why try to rationalise with an obviously mentally ill person? Americans are silly, so insecure about their own lives that when someone spouts shit about their Sky grandad or people "sinning" they get defensive and aggressive.

The very few preachers up in Europe just get ignored or laughed at.

Exactly. Yes it's annoying to listen to, but he's got every right to talk all day.

Meh, the video only shows a clip of what happened. We don't know what types of things he was saying to set her off to begin with.
