I decided like 30 minutes ago I wanted to focus on learning one or two types of ethnic food. I have a pretty firm grip on Tex-Mex, Southern, and Traditional Merican, but want to expand.

I'm leaning toward Indian, since I already started going that direction this year, but I'm a girl and can't make decisions for myself.

I just know I'm bored with food right now and need something to hold my attention on it, so I don't lose interest completely. Sooo... vote and then specify a country/region in a post if you feel the urge and we'll talk it out.

Do Korean cuisine. "Healthy", odd ingredients, and trending on the food scene.

Make sure you're voting, cause I'm basically going to look at the polls to determine which continent, and then the posts for which region of that continent.

If you want to learn Indian cooking I can teach you! I'm a huuuuuge kitchen nerd and pretty darn good when it comes to Indian food. :p There's SOOO many amazing dishes in Indian cuisine, and I'm dying to share them.

Yes, I'm definitely interested. I love food, all food. I started a lemon achar last month and it's in the pantry doing its thing now, based on a recipe I saw once, if that tells you my interest level.

PM me all the things.

How do you figure out trending food scene things?

I have too many eccentric rich friends who brag about Korean food when we're eating at an italian restaurant on several occassions.

Does that fall under Asian?

I'm Filipino so whenever someone questions my country's Asian-ness, I suffer a bit of an identity crisis.

I would actually stray away from Filipino food even though the food is good. I'm sure there are healthy recipes out there, but the ones my parents and I cook are often high in fats, salts and seasoning packets. If it doesn't, the taste is just bland.

I wasn't trying to be offensive, I was genuinely curious. My sil is Filipino and identifies herself as Pacific Islander, not Asian. I didn't know if it was just her or it was a thing. I didn't have Pacific Islander as a choice in the poll. From your reaction, I take it that Filipino is Asian? @Keil

Everything I eat is covered in fat anyway.

@Nahpiosouaraousouareiexxxx

(I can't believe I typed your entire username without a spelling error.  I have to do a triple take to make sure it matched your username)

Nah, don't worry about it. I didn't take offense to it because I'm just one ethnic ambiguity. I'm 3/8th Spain Spanish, 4/8th Filipino, and 1/8th Moroccan. So filling out forms and applications is a bit of an identity struggle for me. I consider Filipino Asian.

Are you okay with so much fat/oils in your food such that if you prepare a filipino soup, you're comfortable seeing pools of oil "puddles" floating above the broth? Other than that, we fry every meat possible.

4/8 lol. Yay! You're american!

Ummm I put three tablespoons of butter in one cup of green beans regularly. And keep oil spills in my tea. I think I'd be ok with it.

Yeah, but it's a subcontinent too.

TIL, Thanks for the info tips. :)

Tomatoes are fruit but you don't see me putting it in fruit salad.

I thought you might want a common knowledge fact too!
