"Playing with Fire"
The the past almost-2 years now, I haven't touched Minecraft. Not because I don't find it fun, or anything like that. It's because the one thing I found fun on Minecraft I can no longer do. I could honestly reenact parts of the cheesy movies in front of a mirror where I fall gracefully to my knees, look to the ceiling and scream "Noooooooooooooo!" because it's those moment you know you've messed up. Not only have you messed up, but you've fucked up. It's those moments, really.
Some time some years ago, I was introduced to Minecraft by a friend of mine. She said she found it fun to play with when she was bored, and knowing me she thought I'd enjoy it. Well, the thing was.. I didn't have the money to buy Minecraft. She was given her account buy an old school friend who no longer played it, but I was left to crack it. I didn't really like the idea, because once you crack Minecraft the only thing you can do is play by yourself or play on cracked-only servers (which I couldn't get to work.) Later on, I was introduced to this friend's new boyfriend. He also played Minecraft, but because of his busy college life, he didn't have time for it.
"You can use my account, if you want," he explained.
I couldn't explain how happy I was! With the name "MedicXD," I was finally able to play on servers with people! I found out there was an entire competitive world of Minecraft I never knew about. If you know me, I'll find to find the competitive community in every game I play. It's just me I guess. I'm pretty weird, huh?
I fell into a community on Minecraft called "Shotbow." This server had a ton of game-modes and servers, including a game called "MineZ." MineZ is basically a Minecraft version of "DayZ" which is a competitive, roaming Zombie game in which you fight against Zombies and other people in a post-apocalyptic time. In the game-mode on Minecraft, there are set towns and areas in this huge map that spawn limited items. In higher-up, more dangerous places there are better armor and that's where the competitive aspect comes in. My boyfriend and I LOVED this game. We played it 24/7. More and more we played different competitive games that Shotbow put out, it was awesome! Well, up until I couldn't log into the account anymore.
Out-of-the-blue, I was no longer able to log in. "Why can't I log in? The information is already put into the box! The password isn't wrong!" I was so frustrated, yelling at my friend almost as if it was her fault. At first, my initial thought was that the account was compromised. "Savannah, tell Isaac his account got hacked!" I was sure that the account was hacked by someone, some very annoying someone. She refused to tell him that, and out of confusion it only made the situation worse. I was furious! I couldn't understand why I was being locked out with a "This password is wrong." when I clearly typed it correctly. Finally, after a long frustrating day I could finally just ask him myself after he'd come home from a long day at work. "Of course! He's the owner of the account. He can just change the password and e-mail so it is no longer compromised," I thought to myself. Well, that's exactly what he did.
"Hey, did somebody hack your account? I can't get on anymore! I don't know if you did or not, I just got on and saw I couldn't get on anymore. Do you know what's wrong?" I was relieved while I started typing out the situation, knowing he'd be able to fix it.
"I changed it. I don't want you playing it anymore." And then he deleted me from Skype.
I was so confused. Beyond confused; I was bewildered. Apparently, that morning Savannah had told him she was cheating on him and then immediately put the blame on me claiming I was pushing her on to someone else at the school we went to. What? Why was I being put into this story that I wasn't even aware of anymore? I just want to play a game! That's all!
The next morning, I told all of my newly made Minecraft buddies that I could no longer play because the account I had was taken away. I shouldn't have expected much, huh? I mean, it wasn't my account. I shouldn't be so ungrateful. After telling my friends that I couldn't play anymore, I was dumbstruck because one of my closest friends told me he'll buy me a new account.
"Are you kidding me?" I asked with a cracky voice.
"Nope, I'll give you the gift code. Just pick a name!"
It's like I was re-living the same exciting moment before, again! I thanked him surely enough for him to get sick of the word thank you because it's all that filled the air between us the next 3 days. We played Minecraft all the time afterwards! My boyfriend and I finally started playing again, and we finally started getting into the hardcore parts of the game. The parts, where we later discovered started to be flooded by the illegit players. The hackers of Shotbow.
Of course, there's hackers in every game and it's no surprise. If it has code, it's probably hackable. No doubt. With my newly made account, "BunnyWunder" I set off with my S.O and we got into the heavily dangerous parts of the maps. Every log in, every foot step we heard was a crouch and a safe-logout for us so we didn't get killed with the stuff we had. In MineZ, every time someone logged in next to you (~200 blocks from you) it would make a sound and display the message "Sounds like somebody is nearby." This was the single most heart-dropping thing that could happen to you when you're in a dangerous, bandit-populated town. Especially when you're sitting there collecting things, about to leave and suddenly"
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
"Sounds like somebody is nearby."
A clan?! What is this?! Do we have enough time to run!?!?!?!?! Questions flood my head whenever this happens, it's always the scariest thing. It's the worst when you're in a house, in a dead-end, or in a tower where you can't just run. This is when you know that a clan is logging in. They do this to scare the people in the town. "They're all bandits, so don't trust them." Well, most of the time they were a clan of hackers.
If you were trapped in this situation, your only chance is to hide and safe-logout (if you log out by exiting Minecraft, your body is left there for them to kill. Safe-logging out takes 15-seconds,) fight 1v15, or run. Most of the time we logged out, but other times we were trapped and tried to fight them off as much as we could. The servers were normally filled 99% with hackers, so surviving wasn't a high chance when you can't hit them but they can hit you.
Moving forward, we decided that it's no longer fair in these fights. We couldn't survive without hacks, so we have to play their game too. We were frustrated with how it always ended. We ended up getting our own hacks. It was fun! We didn't go after people like bandits did, but we killed the people that came after us. Hackers were the worst, and I guess since we hacked, we were the worst. After getting even more frustrated with how the game was going for us, and how the servers weren't dealing with the problems, we purposely got ourselves banned from the servers and said "We aren't coming back. This community is junk."
A year-and-a-half later, we both regret it and wish we could go back to the community we played so much on. But, with the little money we both have it's hard to just get a new account. So, here I am giving you a bit long story that I couldn't have possibly done in hand-writing. One account is better than buying two. Thank you for reading my lame, unpredictable story! I'm not a fantastic writer, but I love writing and it's my pleasure to do this. Thank you, Kord. Have a great day whenever you read this!
