I can't get the damn thing to work =\ I put in POKEMON500 and the rest of the code spots turn to 0's =\

Do you not get to the screen where it says "searching for a gift" (or something like that) after submitting the code?

That's supposed to happen, if you're trying on X and Y that may be why it isn't working
