Is it worth getting a subscription?

 

I study Graphic Design, so programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign are a must for me. I have the CS6 Master Collection since my first year and it's great, but I'm still wondering whether I should make the jump to CC.

 

The subscription is rather expensive though... even with the student discount for one year, so I really want to think this through carefully before I even consider doing it.

 

Does anyone here have CC? Is it a lot different than CS6?

If you don't want to pay, you can easily find all those programs for free on the internet, if you're not against pirating.

(you can try them out and see if it's worth buying or not)

I was just about to suggest this. I had CC (for free) and I liked it, but I can't give you a comparison to CS6 because I've never had CS6. I can try and pull up some specs about both and see if anything new got added.

If you plan on using these programs for a long time and being legit, then yes, I would say it's worth it.  In the past, this software was about $500-ish each to buy, and would cost extra money to upgrade. The CC subscription plans seem to be  cheaper alternatives.

 

If you don't want to spend too much money, you could probably buy a subscription for one program, and take iKate's suggestion and find the other programs online. 

(Bit I try to be as legit as possible, lol)

I just finished school this past June with my fancy piece of paper declaring my graphic design course complete. I have worked through CS4 through 6 and decided to get the Cloud after school. I thought it would keep me up to date on all the programs.

Seriously - an update every day with random blips to "sign up" or "update" with the Cloud subscription is almost as annoying as the fee.

 

If you have CS6, stick with it. I am the only (NOTE: ONLY) designer at my work that uses CC and the other guys make amazing graphics just as well and easily as me.

 

However, this is my opinion.

Thanks everyone for your opinions on it! I might do the trial, yes. I think that might be the only way to know for sure ^^

Well I'm doing a Graphic Design Diploma and I get it fro $14.99 Australian here. So far, compared to my old CS3 or CS5 its just such a simpler/easier thing to have. Especially when you do work on more than just 1 Computer. But if you're only using Photoshop, then the benefits probably might not be worth the Student price or regular price.
