I was thinking, since ownership of Neopets has been passed around and things have started going not quite for the best... What would you do, if you had control of the website?

I'd probably mostly try to fix the damn economy there, as it's really... sort of bad. At least to me. I had other ideas but they've escaped me right now heh.

Sell it!

I don't know what I expected X3

When prices go up, people complain. When prices go down, people still complain. I wouldn't want to own Neopets -.-

(Also, the economy being bad has less to do with the prices themselves and more to do with demand, which has dropped a LOT because so many people left)

I guess that makes a lot of sense, yeah. But how could you make people want to come back? Like... what drove everyone away?

If I didn't know better, I would suspect you of working under Jumpstart and using NeoCodex as free output of opinions from the population that actually knows how the game works down to its psychology and systematic operations.

Since I do know better, I wouldn't accuse you of such a thing because no underpaid and under-appreciated employee would go out of their way to do their job.

To answer your question: I would work on a "New" neopets years ago while the current one is in decline. A New neopets entails a unified coding system so that new content can be effortless integrated for future projects and also revamp the old features to function in the new system.

Additionally, I would initiate a tertiary mode of value. Unlike NeoCash and Neopoints, this third component would solely be based on some sort of free low talent/skill, high attention type of investment by the player so that a new group of players would be inclined to play the game, just as the NCers with their high ticket items and BDers with their wealth.

Goodness, that's a pretty good idea. Why don't some of you people work for them, again? Or work for some kind of pet website.

You bring up a good point.

I'd make more plots that don't include battledome or "click here once a day for free items"

I would not know where to start....

I would start with putting some money into it via programmers to fix the issues and get a bigger server, then market the hell out of it to try and get kids more interested again.

I would focus on trying to fix up the battledome. But maybe on a bigger scale, I would focus on shifting it more towards a teen and up audience (something similar to gaiaonline, or flight rising) instead of a family/children site. I just feel like that would be where the most potential for it to stay relevant would be. I know children play neopets, but I don't think many new children are playing...it's probably just the kids that have been playing for a while.

Given the current state of the website, I wouldn't imagine anyone on the staff makes more than minimum wage.

Aside from the obvious of fixing up all the current problems and broken things? On-site messenger system like Facebook chat, mobile app ( which is apparently being created? ), new pets, new Paint Brushes, new flash games.

mobile app

The app should focuse on pets (gain np so you can train+battle+custom)...

this site is presented as a kid game, but it is way to complicated to join as a newbie. The app  should stay simple.

I'd turn it into a porn site.

Can't lie, it'd probably be my go-to porn site. Neopoints, games, and fucking!

Dream cum true.

Furries would love it.

But like wow there's a lot more response to this than I thought of. Neopets is kinda something different, and it isn't like a lot of other pet sites. At least not that I know of. So I'm hoping it doesn't go down any time soon. Maybe they'll see these ideas. Actually nevermind that'd be bad.

Then collect the insurance.

No, but seriously...

The problem is it wouldn't bring enough people back. The real problem is the people that started out playing Neopets 10+ years ago are growing out of it. No matter what you do they're not going to come back. This is why they are trying to get the younger crowd now with all this Nickelodeon stuff, if you keep them you have another 10+ years of people that will stay then when they get older they're going to grow out of it. Rinse and repeat.

I would make a way to unconvert your pets, like sell an item in the nc mall that unconverts one pet.  Or, just make it an option in the pet preferences/pet lookup.  I hate all the elitist crap surrounding UC pets; one example I can think of is how some people with UC pets will name themselves 'In the Pound' as a way to mess with people who search for pound stuck pets.  I'm not sure of the accuracy of this because it is something I do not know much about, but aren't there people who break into old abandoned accounts to get UC pets?  Out of a lot of things on Neopets, I'd say this issue surrounding UC pets is pretty unhealthy for the site.  TNT doesn't want to do anything to curb it either.  Like any country/economy, when you make something that is popular now scarce or discontinued, people will find a way to get what they want, even disregarding the rules.

Another issue is the rarity of items.  They made it so shops restock more items and empty semi-frequently which is less annoying, but they did not adjust the rarity system.  As it is now, I believe it is unbalanced.  Even the rarest of items are far more attainable than before, but people aren't wanting to buy things as much.  I think TNT is just bad at simulating an economy, not that I know much about one either, but even I can tell it isn't as it should be.  I'd find some way to fix that as well, probably through the help of people who know a lot about that stuff.  The only people really benefitting from this transition are gallery owners...
