Because everyone's all encouraging and like "hey everyone apply so you can become one of us yay!"  Except we haven't voted anyone in in the past two months...but lol don't worry about that.  And then everyone comes back around and is like "yay people have applied, now I can vote no and crush their dreams whoopee"

Well, there are usually reasons not to let someone in, but I think this time it'll happen. I'm feeling it!

Also, we've only had one app each month, the chances of someone getting in are smaller, I think.

I realize that people are trying to be funny but the encouragement seems insincere and the subsequent discouragement seems... well... discouraging.

I don't know about the others, but I'm being honest when I try to encourage people to apply. It's kinda hard to me to do it (even in Portuguese), but I try my best.

That's because no one that's applied in the last 2 months has deserved the next rank for one reason or another.

 

There are guidelines. If people don't meet them, they don't get in. Simple as that.

You're only addressing half of what I'm saying, and when you only address the first half, but completely leave out the second half, it changes the context of what I said - however, I'll give my two cents on what you said anyway:  There are prerequisites for being able to apply (which they meet by virtue of being able to apply in the first place), then there are the arbitrary whims of those who vote.  It's not quite as simple as meeting the guidelines.  

 

To expound my original point: Encouraging people to apply and then laughing about voting no is not funny.

It's really as simple as meeting the guidelines. I can't really go over the specifics of each app we've received but...we aren't unfair. Granted it's a huge circlejerk but there are enough members in Private where it isn't really a problem.

 

And come on. It's lighthearted humor. If our sense of humor deters people from applying, then they shouldn't apply to begin with. 
It only gets worse when they see how we act when no one is looking.

 I agree. Applying for something and knowing that a bunch of people will be 'judging' you can be scary. Let's not make that fear any worse lol
