I have a question about sound drivers, can you download them or do you have to buy them? I feel stupid :p   And a techincal support guy said I need an updated sound driver (I currently have a Avance AC97 Audio) and my comp is a Hewlett Packard Windows XP edition.  What sound driver should I get? I feel so confused.

you can just download them - do a google and I'm sure you'll find a few drivers sites

or you could try and trawl thru the  http://www.aopen.com site if that's the product makers

If you are running windows XP, its even easier...XP can find the most updated sound driver for you online. What you have to do is go to control panel from start. Then switch the settings to classic view if its not like that already. Go to system and then go to hardware. Go to device manager and find the sound area and find the hardware for your speakers. Then right click that and click properties and click drivers. You will see a button called update drivers. Click it and XP will find the most updated sound driver for you :)

well said hydrogen, but I find that only seems to work if the drivers you need are from a major supplier, any of the little ones (especially the on-board ones) it uses the nearest generic one it can find - or doesn't find it, I still think someti'mes it's better if you can find the correct one from the suppliers site

:notworthy: HydroGen! You pwn all!  I feel like one of those old guys :wheelchair: that doesn't know anything about anything and forgets what he had for breakfast and stuff.  Thanks, Mumei, too.

EDIT: Stupid tech support guy! He was wrong about the problem.  I am going back to my theory that my comp is exceeding 60 degrees and it automatically shuts down.  Anyone know how to change its shutdown temp?

You are very right mumei. If you can locate the actual correct driver online, then heck...you dont need any of XP's help. Its a much safer route to take as well to find the driver from the manufacturers website as well as you know that that driver is the one made to work with your specific piece of hardware. If you have been doing it that way, please do not change your method to mine (then again, if you have been doing it that way, youd be smart enough to know that that move is a stupid one :p ). The method I described was for people who werent computer literate enough to find the driver themselves. Nice one mumei!

If that's 60 deg. celcius... that's WAY too hot. Fahrenheit, anything between 40 and 80 should be good.

The CPU core can manage a temp of 70 degrees. Its not recomend to run at that temperature but it mostly burn out at 75°-76°. You can set the shutdown temp in youre bios. This can be accesed when you boot your pc keep pressing F2 or DEL. In some occasions don't know your bios manufator you need to press F1.

The most motherboard have an AWARD bios. Here its F2 or DEL.

If its password protected, you must remove the bat and wait a min or 2. The password will be removed.
When you in your bios, it must be a menu on the right side. I think its the upper right menu but I'm not sure. There you can set the Shutdown temp. I always set it on 70 degrees.

    I hope it helped.
