What are your guy's views on this topic? should it be legal or illegal and why? thought this would be a good debate topic.

Legal reasons: More regulation, less STDs because of regulations, less abuse of prostitutes by pimps, more losers getting laid?

Illegal reasons: Sex is gross, liberalism will destroy society and the family structure

Less crazies raping people, because they could legally get their fix from the local floosie. At least that's an ideal outcome.

I'm all for it. But heck, I'm from the Netherlands. Sexual drive is one of your basic needs. If charging money for pooping is legal, why wouldn't charging for sex be?

As long as it's consensual and safe then who cares what goes on between two people in private? Not me.

I told you. Twitch + streaming + boobs = profit.

Kitty plays games makes thousands of dollars per month because she's attractive. You can do the same!

I really feel this would have no impact on people getting raped. Rape doesn't happen because a guy hasn't had sex in a while, nor would most people who are rapists either get the same "thrill" out of a prostitute or would be willing to pay for one. That having been said, I don't care that much about whether it is legal or not. Living in a place where most "sinful" things are legal, I would prefer for it to be exclusively legal to my state, thus bringing us more income. Everyone get your hookers here! Throw some money down on the slots while you are at it! My state needs your money!!!

Good escorts are model like quality, I'm talking 9 or 10/10s. Even the cheap ones make about $150 an hour.

Legal as long as it's consensual and it's not someone forcing someone else into the line of work.

Nothing wrong with people who want to sell themselves willingly, there's people who need to relieve their sexual frustrations.

Prostitots are legal here in Estonia, but pimping ain't. You still need to wrap it before you tap it though.

Don't see any reason why it should be illegal really. Legalizing it makes it safer all round too.

This. Sorry that this thread didn't come with a trigger warning, but hopefully most people figure it's an difficult topic simply by the nature of the topic. Rape tends to be more about power. Outside of mentally unstable persons, I don't think that "sex fiending" that leads to rape is a thing. (I could be wrong, please apply Bell Curve to all my statements!) However, I think if the prostitute can run her own business (no pimps) it can be done safely (for prostitute and patron) and I have no issue with it. If a person chooses to be a prostitute, no problem. If someone coerces/forces someone else to be a prostitute, problem. Regulation, that either elusive or overbearing mistress, is key.

Why does said theoretical rapist have to be a he? Women rape as well!

Because I hate having to say he/she for everything. Still, in writing and speech, he can be used as a gender encompassing term, much like mankind. But other than that, yes, men can be raped as well / women can be rapists as well.

I will be against it if it strikes up more of a debate.

Prostitution is degrading to women/men, turning them into purely carnal objects to be used and thrown out. There are tons of women (I haven't heard of this happening to men, but I am sure it might) that are sex slaves. You would be shocked to learn that it happens in your own very state/wherever you live. This wouldn't be helped by legalizing prostitution, because the majority of these girls get kidnapped at a very young age (way below statutory rape age). Men don't typically think "Hmmm, I want to screw a 13y/o tonight" without first slowly falling from being a normal human to swimming in the cesspool of amorality. Prostitution invites the sex slave on--legal or not. But legalizing it makes it harder for authorities to catch pimps. These girls are so hopped up on drugs/brainwashed (and usually they threaten to kill their families if they live) that they can't get away, and cops would think "oh, well she is probably just a legal hooker."

In short, if you support prostitution, you support the kidnapping, rape, abuse etc of young women.

Well I mean there are lots of facts and arguments about both sides rather then just saying gross and immoral like the dangers prostitutes go through and what not

I will address each of your points individually:

Prostitution is simply another way of offering a service to someone. You would't call someone you hire for a different service such as a massage someone to be "used and thrown out" despite the fact that you are hiring them for a service and then they leave. Prostitution is the same thing, just a different service.

The sex slave problem would in fact be helped by legalizing prostitution. When given the option, nobody would risk being arrested for hiring an illegal prostitute while there are legal ones available. Prostitution would be a regulated industry, with officials ensuring that the women are not being forced into their jobs. This would make it much easier to identify where the sex trafficking is taking place, and offer legal competition that would drive down the profits of trafficking situations.

In addition to this, the legalization of prostitution could help keep less people in jail, and the service could also be taxed. This would help stimulate the economy, as less money would be spent on the jails, while more money would be earned to be used for the good of the public.

This is absolutely and completely false. I come from an area where prostitution is legal, it also happens to be one of the places with the biggest sex slave ring in the US. Prostitution in no way reduces the sex slave trade, it in fact increases it. Many (not all, not even a majority) of the prostitutes are not wanting to be prostitutes, but are in fact forced to sell themselves for sex (either because they have been hooked on drugs, their life has been threatened or the lives of their family/friends has been threatened). You are calling for the legalization of rape. Making it legal makes it that much harder to catch. But I guess if we are getting tax money for it, by all means, let us allow countless women (and girls under 18) to continue being raped.

That is also like saying "no one would view child porn if they just watched normal porn." Normal porn is the gateway. Same with prostitution/rape.
