Oooh more shows I want to watch but am behind on. Is Flash only on Netflix or do they show it on regular TV too? (I don't have TV, just Netflix). I hear it's really good at least. Man. Can I just quit grad school and watch TV all the time? I need a job that lets me watch tv. I was never big on TV, except for Buffy and Star Trek, but man, maybe it's a function of getting older? DO you guys watch MORE tv now than when you were young?

I presume most of you are old fogeys like me, late 20s at least. I hope. HA

Hey, you keep your old fogey-ness to yourself. I'll have you know I'm in my mid 20s. I watch less TV now, personally. Thank God for Netflix and catch up services though.

I've only read the first book so far and I fell in love with Ned all over again. I was crying on the Tube when he lost his head.

When I hear something is coming out that I want to watch I make a Herculean effort to read it first. It's silly really. It's not that I want to be disappointed or anything, but I watch to catch the nuanced things that come straight from the book. I want the "SQUEE!" for each little homage. It makes the movies/shows better for me instead of worse.

Oh man, Flash annoys the crap out of me. The husband loves to watch it and I just can't get over how awfully cheesy everything is.

Just wait until he starts saying some crap like "Be back in a flash"  :lol2:

I'll try to give a fuller explanation of why breaking bad is awesome. I'm busy for the next couple of hours.

The only thing I can think of from Breaking Bad is 'Hey, Jesse, let's cook.'

I've not seen it either.

Yeah, I feel like the real reason behind it is to show diversity lol but it's great, and teaches a lot about life in different perspectives. I don't know, which guy?

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?

I would be on an island as the pool boy just enjoying life with a smile.

If you could time travel, would you go to the past or the future? If you went to the past, what time period would you like to visit?

I would go into the future. I want to see what my life has turned into. If it's poop I'd try my hardest to change it if possible.

What is your favorite show right now or what shows are you currently watching?

Survivor and Shameless. I love Survivor and I always have and probably will so stoked for the next season. I want to eventually try out one day.

Shameless is one of those you enjoy all the way through. Great show comedy, drama, story, visuals. Just wonderful. You hate every character and love them at the same time.

What are you afraid of?

Losing a certain someone and Snakes!

What would your personal mascot be?

Personal Mascot would be the honey badger. They don't give a Sh*t and it's pretty badass!

How would you survive during a zombie apocalypse? Would you feel guilty about killing zombies?

I would post up in a tree and get a bow and arrow. Start plucking them off. Nah, I wanted to be a sniper for the Marines. I don't think I'd feel guilty about killing things wanting to kill me.

What's your comfort food?

Steak. Nothing like a nice juicy steak to feel alright in life.

What is your job? If you don't have one, what would you like to do? If you go to school, what are you studying?

I am currently a salesmen at an appliance store. I am teaching myself how to web design and program right now for extra money or to start something up. I want to go to school but the thought of being in debt worries me. I applied and got accepted into Pre-Med at Cincinnati but I never went. Just the thought of being in thousands upon thousands of dollars is really breaking mentally. Plus the 10 years of school doesn't help.

Yeah, it's a word play on sensate, and there are 8 main characters and they can sense each other :p
Watch the trailer! (You too @argonate)
http://www.neocodex..../127002-sense8/

I've never watched it and it sounds so boring to me.

It's great! I was hesitant to watch it too. I watched the first episode and was like eh... but eventually came back and watched the rest of it. It's not my all time favorite show, but I can understand why people would think it's amazing. And it's kind of unique. Mainly because American healthcare is fucked so there's a show about a guy who has cancer and has to cook meth to help pay for it/help his family.

GoT is great too, but I haven't caught up on this season. My friend has read the books so he just keeps filling me in. I also heard that this is the end of Kit Harington's contract.

 e.e Now I want steak.

Thanks. Right now I'm doing okay on the social thing.

My wife is my BFF, but at the back of my mind I always fear she'll leave me for someone better.

Then I spend so much time on Codex as the people here are 1000x more awesome than the locals (to say the least).

Ultimately working towards getting my PhD so I can be a professor. I can do tutoring and substitute for high school and younger, but my car recently died so I'm limited to which schools I can visit any given day. When money allows though I'll take the certificate exam to get my teaching license.

I assume most of my classes my first few years will be selected for me, but when I get more freedom I'd do something more along the lines of steampunk, scifi/fantasy, etc.

I have the same "They'll leave" fear. My husband is a mathematician, and my brain just doesn't work that way, so we don't really connect on that level. We used to play games together, but he's way too smart, he literally SOLVES games before I figure out how to play, and then we can't play anymore. Now I play just to watch him stomp other people. HA. But the outdoors stuff we enjoy we don't have time for, so we're doing that old fogey talk about work Hunny crap, and he doesn't care about mine (hell I don't care about mine) and I don't understand his. We're solid in all other respects, but my brain notes the cute lady mathematician in his department and wonders if she'd be better for him. Brains suck.

I know you can do adjunct professor with a Masters, so definitely start applying in that timeframe. I haven't decided if I like the high schoolers or the new colllege kids better, so I'm keeping that decision on hold until I defend my thesis (hopefully next may). Are you in the states? You don't need a teaching license to teach at the university level, just at the high school level, (here at least), and high school and university are VASTLY different settings. In college, they listen when you tell them to be quiet. There's a nifty quiet awe that comes with knowing you can kick someone out of the room for breaking the syllabus (eg, shut up or get out). :D I think I'm leaning towards University for that alone.

I wish there had been courses on steampunk/fantasy when I went through! I think school would have been more interesting! :D

Yes! I'd watched GoT before I started reading the books, and then it was like 'that was not in the show...' The nuances and personal viewpoints are lost on TV.

THANK YOU. +Rep

Not to say anything against GoT because I haven't seen it, but when nudity is so prevalent and sex scenes are so explicit that it basically feels like softcore porn then I can't deal. Also it's just....weird...I can't watch it with people without it being weird but watching it on your own feels like a bad idea when you have roommates or family who might walk in at any moment and misunderstand.

Thanks Argo. When you have a midget banging 4 girls for no reason... while having a conversation with his brother about something stupid. It's just like ... Yeah... I can't. Everyone says it becomes less like that but it's just lost my interest so much I don't care. I have the first season on DVD and just can't watch it.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?

I don't know the exact country, but it'd probably be closer to the North because I like cooler climates and their tendency to have less bugs. There'd be a forest made up of dead trees, maybe just leafless. And the weather would be cool maybe even borderline chilly, but comfortably dry and bright. There'd be clear trails to get back to civilization, it wouldn't even be that long a walk, but the noise and air is free from city pollution. Know any place which fits my criteria?

What's your comfort food?

Mashed potatoes. Baked potatoes. Fries. Wedges. Hash browns. Probably potatoes in general.

I totally forgot cheese fries with ranch.... and steak. So delicious.

Try my ranch recipe it's spicy. Ranch chili powder and cayenne powder mixed together. It's so good! Portions don't matter. More or less to taste. SO GOOOD!

I'd be in San Francisco, rooting on the Golden State Warriors tonight.

I'd go back to Revolutionary America. There's so much history there that I want to see.

I tried watching an episode of GoT and I just couldn't even finish it. Not only was the story soooooooo slow but just all that excessive and unnecessary nudity. I'm not opposed to footage made for shock value, but it mustn't distract from the core and in GoT it definitely does.

I had to check your profile to see if you might have been my lecturer! Turns out you're not so we still retain our modicum of anonymity.

Of course college also gets you more attentive students because

1. The bad ones don't even show up

2. The ones who worked to get there realize the price they are paying and want to make sure they are getting their money's worth

That said, teaching in college can also mean eventually developing courses for online learning platforms (free) that can really help lots of people.

LOL yes, definitely. I think the only thing that will get to me is the rain? I can handle cold because it got -16C here once (I saw some girl wearing flip flops in that cold, and I thought she was absolutely nuts). At the same time, that didn't feel so cold but I'm convinced it's because you start to feel warm when you're dying.

Okee I'll bite.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would you be?

I've been dying to go back to Scotland. Although, my husband keeps sending me pictures of mountains, so I'd go anywhere with mountains right about now.

If you could time travel, would you go to the past or the future? If you went to the past, what time period would you like to visit?

I used to do medieval reenactment for 14th C Europe, but I'd have to have certain assurances about medicine and hygiene before I go. When most people think about history and what they want to see, it's gentry, not regular peasants, for good reason. I think, I'd still go, but I'd narrow it down to something like, Ireland.

What is your favorite show right now or what shows are you currently watching?

Catching up on Supernatural! Last night was season 1 finally and I nearly had a heart attack. GG. I had to fight myself to not start the next one.

What are you afraid of?

Being bored my whole bloody life. Bored of my research, bored of my job, and unwilling or unable to do something else.

What would your personal mascot be?

GRIFFIN. Sort of. I've always loved owls and cats and at some point I decided they were a sort of dragon, that was in some ways a cat and in some ways a dragon. It's just easiest to say griffin though.

How would you survive during a zombie apocalypse? Would you feel guilty about killing zombies?

Killing: no problem. Surviving: my dad taught us that in case of apocalypse, head someplace temperate for farming, middle of nowhere. Stay away from the life-giving ocean for a few decades because everyone else will try to get there. AND, the highest population density in every seaside country is the coast. Stay. Away.

What's your comfort food?

I'm a carb girl. I need pizza, ice cream, pasta. Give.

What is your job? If you don't have one, what would you like to do? If you go to school, what are you studying?

I am a graduate research assistant studying environmental science. I wanted to study either social effects of environmental change and vice versa, or conservation biology, but my stupid research project has me knee deep in geographical information systems. I love maps, really, I do, but I freaking hate remote sensing. I'm dragging ass on it, when I should be forging ahead to get it overwith. SO hard to have motivation. I got strapped into the project my my advisor, WHO, is listed as "human environment interactions" as specialty. But my stupid thesis is basically stupid thesis, but in a different place with new tools. Resent.
