A while back, I was on a date with this guy who made his living selling yugioh cards and playing the yugioh card game. Of course I'm a nerdy person so I wanted to be part of that world; I don't know about you guys but part of me is tired of being at home all the time, limited by the world neopets has given me: sure, it's relatively fun but I feel a lot of the game play is behind a screen, in a room...you get the point.

Anyways, from what I heard, they have tournaments, you can practice online, and conventions I think (not sure if they are the same as tournaments or not...)...the guy I was on the date with had made several close friends around the country doing so (I guess it's international?). The most I know about yugioh at all is when I was in elementary schools, it was one of the shows I would watch and it's about cards that battle other cards.

So, anyone have more information? Been to anything like this?

I used to. My first boyfriend played it, and I went to the tournaments his local card shop held on the weekends. I have a ton of cards still. Some guy on ebay sold me a whole tin of cards, with a ton of really rare ones, and 1st editions for $13. That tin is worth way more than $13. I used to play a blackwing deck, and I did have some of the video games, but that's as far as I got into the game.

I used to have a Yugioh Gameboy game that was pretty fun, although I never collected the actual cards. I did play Magic the Gathering for a while though.

I used to collect the cards but never really played it too much. I still have them tucked away somewhere at home. Might get them out and have a look to see if there's anything worth selling lol

I used to. I don't much anymore because they keep introducing crap into the game like these "XYZ" monsters and the "pendulum cards" or whatever. I'm a fan of the original Yugioh that wasn't all about money.

If you want to play a card game, pretty much anything would be a better choice than Yu-Gi-Oh.

If you really want to do a card game, try Magic The Gathering. It's less confusing, since Yugioh keeps adding stuff in.

This site is something that @Adam showed me the other day although it seems to be down at the moment.

If you're looking for a strategy turn based card game that isn't much of an investment Dominion is rather fun. Everyone starts off with the same deck and each match can last about 30 or so minutes.

I followed Yu-Gi-Oh up to a bit of the XYZ monsters. After that I gave up, because they were just adding stupid stuff. Seriously, pendulum monsters?

Don't know what they are, but my little brother showed them to me. It's a cash cow now, nothing more.

The first time I opened this link on my PC and on my cousin's AND on my phone, it redirected me to an adult dating site lmao

For a low buy-in with expandability, Dominion and Ascension are two good, self-contained card games. The former is sort of Medieval themed, although the theme is thin, and the latter is more Fantasy based.

For a more traditional collectable game, with rarities and whatnot, you should play Magic the Gathering if you intend to stay casual. Probably Pokemon is more affordable if you plan to take it to the competitive level.

Finally, if you want a collectable-esque game without the obscenely rare cards in random distribution, and wild power creep, you should play one of Fantasy Flight's "living" card games. They each have a starter box, and expansions with a fixed distribution - no booseters to dig for the card you need, just buy the "booster" that you know contains that card.

My personal favourite is the cyber-punk/noir LCG, Android:Netrunner.

Yeah I play Yu-gi-oh, I played it when I was younger as well. Me, my boyfriend and my brother were really into it again at one point and now I have 2 tins full of cards O_o . One time I bought a whole booster box just to get rares heh..

But yeah its a fun game when you have a good deck and know how to use it :) I've played it on the DS but its not as good as playing against people irl lol

Someone I know is obsessed with this game. There is nothing wrong with being into a game and enjoying it but when it takes over your life, then you have a problem. He sells cards for over 300$ and buys cards for similar prices. He travels to a whole bunch of places for tournaments, and plays online. I think he is somewhat known in the Yugioh scene. Anyways the whole point is that he let it take over his life and failed many classes in university because of it, he was supposed to graduate a long time ago but it never happened and apparently he's been at home just trading cards nonstop. Dunno how you can let a game like that take over your life so badly.

My girlfriend does, but I had one of those mom's who thought demons would possess me if I played, so I never really got into it as a kid.

I used to play years ago when I was a kid, but didn't really know the rules too well, so I just made up my own rules.

Got back into the game about two years ago and dropping in and out. Never played competitively, but I still like to keep up to date from time to time.

FYI if you want to play on your computer or online, the most popular Yu-Gi-Oh! simulators are Devpro, YGOPro Percy, or Dueling Network. Use YGOPro or DevPro if you want some practice playing the game once you understand the rules, or if you're a complete beginner maybe play one of those Yu-Gi-Oh video games for the DS or something.

If you are a fan of super heroes, dc deck building game by cryptozoic is a good option and its fun to play with people, they also have a marvel deck building game as well called legendary, these while not collectable can make plenty of fun for you and friends. Yugioh is a highly competitve and monetary atmosphere, ive been buying selling trading since i was in middle school. If you want fun check out your local comic shops for pokemon tournaments nearly everyone there does it for hobby
