See topic title. Some classic examples are "It was all a dream" like in Alice in Wonderland or prince saves the princess as in any 20th century Disney movies.

Bonus: What clichés do you absolutely cringe/abhor upon coming across with?

Hero meets girl. Girl helps hero realize something about himself. Girl and Hero get together.

Which then creates a romantic subplot in the next movie. I hate romantic subplots. Action movies are supposed to be action, not about some sappy romance. I want aliens getting beat up, I don't want sappy love scenes in the middle of everything and breaking up the action!

ugly girl meets rich guy, girl befriends guy, girl gets a makeover and suddenly is actually super model pretty all along, guy marries girl. Rags to riches.

When the intelligent lead character is shown to have markedly poor social skills. You can be smart as fuck while still charming the pants off of everyone. No need to make anyone with a brain socially awkward or borderline autistic.

Keil, I'm going to rock your world.

This site is basically nothing but cliche. Tropes, really, but it's close enough, since most everyone who uses tropes uses them in cliche ways. No imagination these days.

"If I kill him, I become just like him."

Bad guy scurries away. Kills 50 people.

"How could this have happened?"

"Don't beat yourself up, it wasn't your fault."

Every superhero series ever:
Boy is superhero. Nobody knows boy is superhero. Boy loves girl. Girl loves superhero. Girl thinks boy is a dork/friend. Sudden enemy pops up. Sudden enemy is defeated the same episode. Girl would still only do superhero and not boy. End of episode.

Ugh, and the "nerd girls"

b9627bdf25f029c7524b2c9a42483ba6.jpg
"Lel I wear glasses I'm such a nerd"

Same goes for "ugly chicks" in films that are "suddenly beautiful" when you remove their glasses and let their hair down.

Oh, and the ""hacking"" is a big no-no for me.

Hahaha those hacker montages are the best.

It's kinda gratifying that programmers do something so mystifying that people don't even attempt to understand it. Movie producers, even in hacker movies (Swordfish notably), resort to graphical representations that most programmers shun. And who the hell has nine displays?

Edit: I should say, the first Matrix was really good about authenticity in this regard. "Way too much information to decrypt the Matrix."

The Friendships being tested cliche.

(That's all I can think of for now.)

Yeah I hate giving geeks a chance too.

I think that's a really poor area of Rom-Com. It's like Degrassi-esque rom-coms, or dead wife rom-coms. Jesus, how many of them do we need.

Edit: this one pisses me off. Ninja fights. Yin and yang somehow come into it. Bullshit.

Argh, you made me go to TV tropes. I've wasted hours of my life on that site. I'm a serial tab opener.

Mary Sues. Though not a cliché as such, reading books with perfect characters piss me off. I mean, they have to take a shit at some point, don't they?

I was thinking Wrench Wench. Hot Scientist and Hackette are along the same lines.

This is one of my fave sites. It's also surprisingly helpful when you need to write papers on culture or cultural products.

Stupid athletes. Every guy in a sports team need help to keep their grades, and this help usually comes in a not-so-attractive-and-way-off-his-standards nerdy girl form, who will make him discover what true love means.

One of my least favourites is the overcoming some big thing together which means the characters must fall in love. Ugh.

Memory loss, some trauma that causes the main character to lose their memories to test their love...The overused evil mother-in-law who opposes the main leads' relationship and tries to separate them..etcetc

There's just too many to list.

A very interesting cliche is the monomyth. Many legends and myths can be reduced to these schematics and many modern time epic stories are based off it; Star Wars is a textbook example of a monomyth.

But, contrary to many of the cliches described here, I don't mind a monomyth in a story, because it's basically proven to work well countless of times and it brings cohesiveness to a story.
