I'm just getting started with ABing and since I'm not an advanced member yet, I'm making do with AB lists. I've been reading Eefi's awesome guide on making lists, but I've got a question about what items I should really be including.

The guide says to pretty much copy-and-paste everything from the database in the shop I want to AB in, including stuff where the profit is like 1M+. Since I'm new at this, I think I'll be sticking to lower profit items for a while.

So my question is - what profit range would make the most sense for some just starting out ABing? I'm thinking about starting with items that profit for 1000 minimum, but what would be a sensible maximum? 5K? 10K? 50K?

Also, just to note that my Neo account is quite old, so I shouldn't have any problems seeing any rare items... but I've never restocked before, even legitimately, so I'm a bit less savvy about knowing what a good profit would be.

Thanks!

If you never restocked, you definitely should stick with the lower profit items. Maybe something between 5k and 50k. I don't think having a 50k as max is that dangerous, since nowadays 50k doesn't have that much value anyway.

I agree with Athayde. I would possible go for either a 50k profit max or a 35k/25k max. A 5k profit cap is pretty small, and going a bit higher I'd say should be fine, even if you've never restocked before. Even newbie restockers (legit ones) will still get some good profit items (not the really high ones, but some of the medium ones), even if they've never restocked before. Most newbies I'd say would read some restocking guides before they actually try and restock so they know what sort of items to look for that might have a good profit. (In JN's/TDN's/SN's restocking guides, and some of the ones on neo petpages, they give hints as to what to look for. Such as an item stocking in a very small number, or an item stocking that costs a certain amount, 10k or so, that stocks in small numbers).

It's a lot easier to legit restock these days, for a variety of reasons - less players, more items restocking at once, etc. I think even going up to 90-100k profit for a newbie is safe with ABing. When I came back to Neopets recently, I legit restocked for a month or so, just to get a feel for all the changes they made to the restock system. I was legit restocking items worth 70-400k pretty easy. Some were accidental restocks, where I was just very lucky, and some were intentional. So, it's up to you really. Satsuki really hit the nail on the head about reading up. If you go to the trades chat board on Neo, you can ask in any of the restocking boards for guides and such. They will be able to give you great information. I would consider legit restocking first, just so you get a handle on things, before you AB. That's just my personal preference though. Obviously, if you're not stupid with ABing, it's relatively safe.

I can actually link a number of guides, if you're interested in reading any of them.

(that one just links to a number of guides. Just scroll through the side bar until you get to the link that says "restocking". That's where the guides are linked).

I wasn't sure if it was okay to link someone's petpage. So, here's the guide I have found to be particularly useful.
http://www.neopets.com/~briannea#t6

It's pretty comprehensive and I'm sure with all of Satsuki's links could give you some great information. c:
