I'd say invest your NPs on making your pet stronger rather than getting pretty good weapons. Keep ABing and keep collecting codestone from the BD to make thing faster.

scroll of ultranova is a great budget weapon I use on my labs. solar flare shield should cover the spread left from the parasol, but i'm not sure as to the price

Yes!!! Now it is very easy to earn neopoints. Work hard build your income first than invest on your pet stats.

If you want a budget set this is what I would say to get:

 

2x Scroll of Knowledge

Rejuvenating Jar of brains

Hanso Charisma Charm (Or Golden Compass)

Parasol of Unfortunate Demise

Downsize!

Randomly Firing Freeze Ray

 

That's like a sub 1 mill BD set that'll last a while

If what you are looking for is BD avatars, there are some 1-use-only bombs/freezers that are really helpful. They don't go for more than 10k and you can beat most of avatar challenger's with a decent pet

Dupes are still being sold off, especially common with gbomb/anagrams, if you actually watch the auctions the same few people sell one every couple of days and have had one listed daily for weeks-months.

 

there's also lack of demand for supply with so many people quitting.

Yes @elkid27, if you don't plan on selling it and intend to keep it in your SDB or on a pet. Someone told me the key is basically just to keep it to yourself that you have a duped item. Don't give people the chance to report you for suspicious (or otherwise) activity. 

A great starter healing item for BDers is Greater Healing Scroll. Only like 125kish. And I think @Desant said something about a Scroll of Ultranova. That is better than the battle hammer, I believe and is hella cheap.
