I experienced something that was rather discomforting a couple days ago.

What do you think about hospital employees (specifically technicians, nurses and doctors - ie. anyone who would logically be faced by human nakedness due to the nature of their job) who display an obvious distaste, discomfort or whatever to female nakedness?

 

Let me explain my particular experience and preface it by saying, it could have been a misunderstanding on my part, due to bias or whatever, but it seemed liked two male hospital employees were annoyed and disgusted by the fact that for a brief moment they saw my breasts... while I was in an ER... because they had to hook up an EKG, due to an extremely high heart rate at rest.

Well, it wasn't just their face. It was both the comments made, tone and the obvious discomfort in body language. It's possible I was overthinking it.

That's really unfortunate, you should of said something at the time but I totally understand not saying anything. I'm pretty passive and would probably just leave feeling very uncomfortable and down on myself.

Honestly, I was in way too much pain and way too preoccupied by vomiting to make a remark. In any other situation, I would have. I just don't get it. You work in a hospital. You're bound to see some tits, dicks and vaginas in your time there as any sort of healthcare provider. I've never experienced anything like disgust from an ER tech over some titties and I've seen a lot of doctors, been to a lot of ERs and undergone some pretty humiliating tests. By the second time it happened, I was in less pain and the second guy actually asked me to turn the gown around for his comfort. Even though I said I was fine with it being on backwards, because he was just gonna have to hook me up to the EKG again.

Any form of nakedness in my profession is 99% detestable.

I am sorry that happened to you. In the medical field, no one should feel weird about nakedness. It is an intimate relationship a physician has with his/her patient, so for a patient to be made to feel uncomfortable is a violation of that relationship. The only thing I can imagine is that they were learning how to do it, were nervous about screwing it up (and maybe seeing their first topless lady since working in a hospital) and made those (inappropriate) comments to try and calm their nerves. But the thing is this: when you are hired as a (MD, RN, MA, anything dealing with patients) you have the understanding that you will do and see certain things. I check prostates. Do I like sticking my finger up dudes buttholes? No, but when I am doing it for a reason (to check for prostate problems) it doesn't gross me out. 
 

Anyway, you should call the hospital and voice your concern so they can teach their employees these things that shouldn't have to be taught. Maybe you will save a few more people from sharing your discomfort. And, again, I am sorry that happened. I hope it doesn't deter you from getting the best healthcare you can and deserve!

I know, and I've never felt weird about nakedness until then. I have undergone stress tests with my tits hanging out, bouncing around with a bunch of docs in the room watching as I run on a treadmill, lol. The thing that bothered me is that both the people were old dudes who are uncomfortable with nakedness. So, I don't know if they were new or not, even so by now (both late 40s, early 50s). If they hadn't been so visibly disgusted or nervous by my breasts, it wouldn't have bothered me.

In any case, I won't be going back to that hospital, for a number of reasons. There was one RN who made the entire thing okay, because she took such amazing care of me. But overall, the entire hospital visit was horrible. 

Not sure if this is relevant, but it was a Catholic hospital. The only reason we went there is because it was deemed an emergency and that hospital was the closest.
