It's 2016, what are some things that you would have thought happened by now?

example:

I'm surprised that it's 2016 and we still can't un-send text messages, I mean we can un-send emails.

I'm honestly surprised WW3 hasn't happened yet.

Neopets hasn't been cancelled.

I'm surprised we don't have a commercially available, actually decent Holographic Movie technology yet.

Oh and fairly surprised at how slow the world is to adjust to things.. i mean here in aus, we're used to same sex stuff but we're basically still unable to truly marry, etc and its driving me nuts reading the news, seeing ever so slowly how bloody stubborn the world is with how it chooses to adapt and adjust to these things that aren't at all new in anyway -_-

We don't have blasters, phasers, lightsabers (we can't figure out how to make the laser stop without being encased in glass), any kind of ship like the Falcon or the Enterprise (even in development), we don't have medical tricorders yet...pretty much everything from Sci-Fi. If we funded science more here in the US, we might have some of that stuff. At least the military created a sort of invisibility cloak, which is nice.

Time travels. Teleportation. Cure for chronic diseases. Wings on tiny dogs. We've got coloured and scented TP, for fuck's sake, what the hell that did to humanity? And you can't make all those little things true? Fuck you, mankind.

Certain Codies predictions haven't come true. Specifically:

  • X for next banned

Well that's it.

I feel like WW3 could be close. If not this year, possibly next. Or a war on an even larger scale than the one raging rn.

Smartphones with a decent battery life and reasonably sized whatsits.

Finding Nessie.

It's weird when young and educated people try to tell you that Earth is 6000 years old. You'd think that with all our modern technologies and possibilities they'd actually open their eyes.

To unsend a text:

Immediate turn to airplane mode. You will lose your connection, and the text will fail to send. Delete the failed message.

I second this. Where is the device to let me fangirl as hard as I want and it "actually" happens? Where is the Nerve Gear? Why can't I go online and play with swords yet? *throws hands in the air*

It'd be amazing, the joy, thrill and excitement of playing a game.... also playing Sims would be like lucid dreaming with full control

I'm surprised the GOP hasn't failed and become a fireball of burning rage and destruction. Oh wait.

In line with this, I thought this election cycle would be the year of the third party, with at least the Republicans splitting the Tea Party (freedom caucus, whatever they call themselves) off from the sane fiscal conservatives.

The more people communicate with each other directly instead of through some intermediary media company (Fox, NBC, BBC, etc) the less top-down authoritarian media conglomerates we have. We let these people frame every debate, every issue in terms of what will generate the best ratings and viewership for themselves. The false equivalency of putting someone from each party on the screen as though both viewpoints are necessarily legitimate because it makes for adversarial politics. The Fourth Estate is dying, and Crossfire killed it.

It has died. Le petit mort.
