Looking to buy some books for my wife for her Bday next month. She loves the harry potter, LOTR and hunger games series, disliked divergent series. She likes pretty much any genre of book, if it is written well. (I realize HP and hunger games weren't written very well, but the storyline and innovation made up for it). I am open to tons of suggestions. She hasn't read any vonnegut, so I am getting her Slaughterhouse 5, but I want to hear from you guys. Thanks!

I tried to read the second hunger games and couldn't get past the first five pages lol.

But anyway..Maybe some Dan Brown books? Those are pretty entertaining. Brad Meltzer is similar, he's good too. Maybe some Philip k dick. There are a ton of well written books I could go on for days, but here's a start. Year zero is a good book. Could go with some Palahniuk as well. Abarat was a book I remember liking when I was younger, pretty cool.

While Brown's plotlines held my attention, I found his writing style stale. It might've been cause I listened to it as an audiobook though instead of actually reading it, so there could've been an issue with the dude's voice.

I read DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, but I read them in Spanish...so it is hard for me to judge his actual style. Sometimes things don't quite translate. I agree with Jess's assessment though

Bumping again. Any books/audiobooks you guys have read recently you love? 

My wife is really going after history books/audiobooks now too, if anyone has great suggestions. I just haven't been reading much since med school.

The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.

Based on her liking LOTR, she might want to check out the Dragonlance series. She could start with The Chronicles, which is the first trilogy of the series. Or, jump right into it with one of my favourites, The Legend of Huma.

 

I recently read Looking For Alaska. I was skeptical at first, but I loved it.

If your wife loves Harry Potter, Cursed Child is a sorta must-read Or perhaps Fantastic Beasts. As of unrelated books, I really enjoyed 'Bob the Streetcat' last Christmas. It's the true story about a homeless addict in London who turns his life around when he meets Bob the Streetcat. It's a really charming feelgood book.

ReadyPlayerOne is a good book. It's on virtual reality and how the whole world becomes consumed by it
