Not sure if there's a topic about them yet. If so, please DELETE.

Manga (漫画 Manga?) are comics created in Japan, or by creators in the Japanese language, conforming to a style developed in Japan in the late 19th century.[1] They have a long and complex pre-history in earlierJapanese art.[2]

Thank you Wikipedia, old friend. So, I bet you've all heard of them, I'd like to ask you:

What's your favourite genre?

What are your all time favourites?

Do you know any secret gems, some artist who deserves more recognition?

Who's your favourite writer/artist?

¨When did you start reading manga?

Do you draw manga yourself?

So I guess I might as well answer those questions too. My favourite genres are shoujo (fight me), shounen, and josei. I'm always a sucker for school life/romance/comedy/real life works.

My favourites are Bonnouji (Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life, two students living in the same house start a friendship that slowly turns into a relationship. Very cute and very funny, but also quite mature. Had fun reading this.), Himegoto- Juukyuusai No Seifuku (Drama, Romance, Mature, School Life, Psychological, Gender Bender, Seinen, college aged young people struggle with gender and sexual identity and get it on a lot. But good writing, I'm always keen for the next chapter.), Hiyokoi (shoujo, school life, romance, comedy, a really small girl and a really tall dude end up as a couple and many funny things happen.), Horimiya (romance, comedy, school life, slice of life, shounen, e headstrong girl and a dude who looks like a delinquent in his spare time but normal at school get together, very funny relationship dynamics. The girl's father is hilarious. Read it.), Orange (drama, romance, supernatural, mystery, school life, shoujo, tragedy, slice of life, the main character receives letters from her future self, telling her how to prevent the suicide of a transfer student whom she eventually begins to fall in love with. The amount of tears I shed while reading this is silly.) There are more, but these are my all time favourites. Also so many smutty and nsfw ones, but those would be against the rules.

Koe no Katachi isn't that well known I think? It's about a dude who used to bully a deaf transfer student, years later he tries to make amends and learns sign language and tries to befriend the girl. Nice drawings, great writing.

I have no favourite artists, and I'd like to say that Matsuri Hino is overrated, tyvm.

Started reading manga when I was like... 8ish? 9ish? I think the first one I read was Gakuen Alice and then Gals! by Mihona Fujii. If you ever meet a Mihona on a website, that's probably me because I worshipped that woman and her manga.

Of course I had a phase where I scribbled manga heads everywhere. Not so much anymore, idk how to describe my style though.

Pictures will be added whenever because I'm lazy. So incredibly lazy.

YEEEES to this topic

What's your favourite genre?

HORROR/ERO GURO. It's almost ridiculous how hard it is to find horror manga fans outside of the community

What are your all time favourites?

Kouishou Radio, Fuan No Tane, Kijin Gahou, Plastic Girl (not the shoujo one...) They're mostly all made up of short stories

Do you know any secret gems, some artist who deserves more recognition?

I don't notice artists that much except for my fave and the usual big names so :/

Who's your favourite writer/artist?

SHINTARO KAGOOOOOOOOO my man

When did you start reading manga?

Was 12 when I started collecting the entire series of Fruits Basket...

Do you draw manga yourself?

Koe no Katachi's getting a movie this year!

I like Shintaro Kago's works, as well as Usamaru Furuya with Litchi Hikari Club. Is there a horror manga community at all? I've never been able to find any.

What's your favourite genre?

I really like historical fiction when they're done right. It doesn't have to be accurate, just entertaining (like Drifters for instance).

What are your all time favourites?

This is hard. I'd say right now it's Soremachi (Sore Demo Machi wa Mawatteiru), a seinen manga by Ishiguro Masakazu. The manga is a perfect blend of comedy and slice-of-life with some mystery as toppings. The other would be Ashita no Joe (Tomorrow's Joe), which is a classic in every essence of the word.

cZ4OGge.jpg

Sore Demo Machi wa Mawatteiru

The series follows the exploits of whiny Hotori Arashiyama, her friends, family, neighbors, shopkeepers and colleagues at the local maid cafe. The typical slice of life format is occasionally interspersed with stories dealing with aliens, ghosts and the paranormal.

aZ6GdD8.jpg

Ashita no Joe

Joe Yabuki is a young man living in the slums of Tokyo. But, one day he meets Danpei Tange, a former boxer, who discovers his potential in boxing and tries to make him into a champion. Due to petty crimes, Joe is sent to a juvenile prison. There Joe mets Toru Rikiishi, a promising boxer, who knocked him out with one blow when he attempted to escape prison. Slowly but surely, Joe realizes his own potential. Joe begins his boxing life, step by step, with only one goal in mind: To defeat Toru Rikiishi!!

Do you know any secret gems, some artist who deserves more recognition?

Can't think of anyone else but Katou Shinkichi at the moment. Most of the manga I've read from him are top class material. Here's one example:

aqnEE23.jpg

National Quiz

In a different world than the one we live in, a world where Japan is the lone superpower of the world, there is a wildly popular game show called the National Quiz. Every night, people dreaming of riches, fame, vengeance, and happiness compete on the show, for the chance to be granted a wish, any wish they have: the National Quiz has the power to make your wildest dreams come true. It also has the ability, if you lose, to make your life a living hell.

This is the story of K-i K-ichi (aka prisoner KK47331), a former actor-turned losing National Quiz contestant-turned wildly popular host of the show, and the people and events surrounding him.

Oh, and if there are any drug lords reading this, please give Ultra Heaven a try. Here are some sample images:

LjPbrOk.jpg

Who's your favourite writer/artist?

Shigeru Mizuki, the genius behind Gegege no Kitaro who passed away at the ripe age of 93 last November. ;_;\

I'm also not the biggest fan of Tezuka, though I can see why he's heralded as the God of Manga

¨When did you start reading manga?

Been a reader since I was a kid. Only got really into it after I read Berserk in my teens.

Pluto by Urasawa is also really good and makes me cry every time.

I like a horror comics a lot too, Junji Ito's stuff is amazing.

I don't draw manga myself per se, but I am a comic artist and spend almost all of my spare time drawing webcomics.

Reading manga on and off. However the currently list of new manga is only so-so, weak storyline. art style is no problem as long as readable. Try readin the mangas from the 90s, those are the true gem to me, though not speticular artwork. Akaji is pretty good in the seinen genre.
