Just a random question that came to me.

 

I'm half white, half Japanese. White mother, Japanese father. But most people don't recognize any Asian in me at all. Most just assume that I'm white.

 

What are you and what do others mistake you for? Pictures are encouraged! (Sorry, my webcam sucks)

My great grandparents came straight from France. GGrandpa was pretty much a 'pure blood'  Frenchman. GGrandma was Hungarian & Croatian mix. Somefuckinghow, people think I'm Asian...?

Lol! What's even funnier is that my younger brother doesn't look like me very much... well, some people say yes and others no. But he is almost always mistaken for Hispanic since he's so tan, lmao.

It's ok, my cousins that are half Hungarian half Chinese look 100% Caucasian and people don't believe them when they say they're half Chinese. 

 

As far as I know I'm 100% Chinese which is unfortunate because that means there's absolutely no chance that me and @Adam can be related. 

 

 

I have been mistaken for Hawaiian, Filipino, Korean and Vietnamese before.

I'm French & Greek on my mom's side, Scottish & Irish on my dad's. I don't know whaaat happened when those genes mixed bc I get a huge amount of people asking what my ethnicity is. I've gotten Asian (all types), Spanish, Colombian, Middle Eastern (Persian, usually), Hawaiian, Italian, Russian, and a few more I'm blanking on. Once I tell people about my actual background they usually comment about how much my French/Greek side shows. I'd be interested to see what you guys think, because I think I look pretty damn white lol

I think it's your eyes, because I can totally see how people would get the middle eastern or persian from that.

Wow, interesting responses! If I had to take a wild guess, I would say white or maybe even with a mix of some sort of Asian... lol, it's pretty hard to tell!

 

Yeah, it's definitely your eyes that probably make people think Persian.

Part of my family migrated from Sweden to Argentina. The other part from Italy / Spain. So basically I'm a mixture of that, not really sure how it would be called

Both my parents are Indian - my mom is from India, my dad is a non-resident Indian. I've been mistaken for a Vietnamese, Filipina, or Nepalese. I've got rounded facial features, so maybe that's why.

I think you guys are right about the eyes - I also have olive skin and tan pretty easily so I guess that just adds to it

I'm full Russian. Living in Australia, people think I'm Aussie.. (blonde hair blue eyes) but once I tell them I'm Russian they see it straight away.

No one has mistaken me for being non-Asian, of course. But I have been mistaken for Japanese / Korean / mainland Chinese while I am actually a Chinese-Singaporean.

Actually I just did my Ancestry DNA for Christmas (SO FUN) and it confirmed what I knew: SO MUCH GERMAN AND IRISH, with some south-European (French / Bohemia), and a tiny Scotch. It told me I DON'T have the Native American I'd been raised to be so proud of... which has actually left me in a bit of a confused space there. I'm kind of armchair-active in Native rights and adore the history, but now I feel a bit like I'm appropriating it. In summer, I've been told I LOOK Native American, and we were raised with it, so maybe it's more like, being adopted, I dunno. Otherwise, no one ever asks me if I have some background, just the Native American.

 

I started doing my dad's genealogy and couldn't find it, so I did the DNA test, and it's not there either. Someone, somewhere, told a fib, and it stuck. Really disappointing, actually.

The Ancestory.com DNA Test told me I was less than 2% black. That's all I'm saying. You guys are gonna have to figure out the rest.

 

I've actually been told a have a lot of European roots such as Scottish, Danish, Irish, and such. Also, I have Cherokee on both sides of my family.

i get mistaken for japanese a lot, even when people don't know i speak it. when i do, it's just kind of assumed. it doesn't really bother me, maybe i have some japanese facial features idk, but sometimes people will ask and then get disappointed when i'm like nah mate i'm chinese?
 

even worse when they push bullshit stereotypes on me, like bitch im not your next waifu contender and no i don't actually think you're super cool cos you're white. imma bench press u.

 

yeah okay so i can't, but you don't know that pffff.

 

anyway sydney's a good place. never got any of that, so that's really nice. ;u;; probably because there are so many of us.
