Heyy welcome! I'm buying a house some time soon as well . The only thing stopping me is obviously finding a house that I like, and finding a roommate to help pay my mortgage :|. 

Zillow and Redfin!! They have been a godsend. I hate looking in such a hot seller's market right now though! It's like I see a house I LOOOOOVE and want and then the next day Status: Pending. Arg.

That happened to me. I found one I liked on 2/13 that had been on the market for two days, but I wanted to think about it over the weekend. Within 2 hours of viewing the property, the realtor called and told me it had gone under contract. I ended buying a larger home in the same neighborhood, so it worked out I suppose.

Hey all, new poster here. I will be adulting very soon. Planning to buy a house (eeeeeeeeek) and attending law school in the fall.... So it's going to get pretty serious up in this...

We just started land hunting yesterday, for homesteading. Adulting all the way around.

I would take the averaging deal ONLY if in the past you've had problems budgeting for the summer/winter bills when the bills go up. I'm lucky because I live in a huge basement two bedroom apartment by myself (for now) and while I don't have A/C, it's been over 90 degrees outside and I don't need it. I even use my fleece blanket at night which is glorious. I'm hoping it also stays insulated in the winter but I'm sure it's going to be cold AF and my power bill is going to be crazy expensive. Right now electric/gas combined is around $68 last month. ~50 for electric and ~8 for gas (water heater, I presume). The tax man takes the rest. Overall not that bad. I pay $775 per mo on rent, but rent includes a washer, dryer, and dishwasher in my apartment AND free direct tv with internet. I seriously scored with this apartment. The lady who is renting to me lives upstairs and was a previous professor of psych at the college and specifically chose to rent to me because she knew I was starting my PhD so I was sticking around for a few years. In this town, I'm sure you get sick of undergrads lol

That makes sense. I'm pretty good with money and I haven't really had issues with it. I might have sticker shock though from kicking everyone out of my house last year, the electric bill dropped considerably after that lol.

I'm making a to-do list of things to accomplish before the babies get here, one of which is stocking up on stuff so I don't have to drag 4 kids to the store. I'm about halfway to a three month supply of toilet paper, a month's worth of lunches, 6 month's worth of deodorant, (a week of diapers lol)... but I know I'm forgetting vital things. What would you consider important to have if you weren't going to leave the house?

Adult life is massively boring me today.

Trying to organise the shipping of all the Boy's belongings back from Paris to London in the next couple of weeks and it's more hassle than it's worth. Bleh.

Also still vaguely house hunting although Brexit has knocked horrendous amounts of what our house will be worth so that may have to go on hold until the market recovers. Double bleh.

Changed my insurance provider on the bike after they decided to jump the price up for no apparent reason. Fuckers. But now instead of paying £270 a year the new insurance company is only charging £120 a year

Got WAY too excited for a sale on a dozen eggs for $.69.

Then I realized just how often similar experiences occurs.

Exactly when did a sale on toilet paper, key food ingredients, milk, etc. or paying the bills become truly exciting?

And to top it all off, this Sunday I plan on getting the Sunday paper for... coupons.

Because that's apparently something I do now.

Not sure how I feel about this.

I just graduated this year and started work literally the weekend after my ceremony (Friday ceremony, Monday start date) From talking about exams/professors/classes to 401ks and insurance, dang adulthood has hit me like a goddamn truck.....


Still very grateful for my job, but I can't help but feel like a faux-dult

When you math it out and it turns out you're spending as much on childcare + gas as you made this week. At least the oldest monster goes back to school next week and I won't have to pay for her anymore.
