Nice attack: truck driver named as France mourns 84 killed on Bastille Day

The link below is providing update on live reactions and such on the event

EDIT: There may be some footage which people find distressing

This thing is honestly so heartbreaking and disgusting.

There have been way too many attacks across the world and this needs to stop.

I'm not sure if it's been already confirmed to be a terrorist attack.
(I am not following any online news about it, the only news I heard was from the TV and they say police hasn't made made a formal statement saying it was related to terrorism or any terrorist group)

This world is crazier by the day.
At my work is common knowledge (at least to some of the guys) by now that Europe can't continue this passive inside its own borders, and something has to be done. I think that, at this point, that's not very far from the truth. Either way I guess some of us have been preparing ourselves for something like this for 15 years.

When I first heard the headline (I listen to NPR using their app) I was like "This attack isn't nice. Why are they saying it's nice?"

There have been too many attacks on the internet to the point I'm like: that's nothing new.

Why should I care?

Why should I care?

Because they're not on the internet, they're in real life.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

You make the implication that the Internet is not inclusive to real life.

But I heard about this through the Internet. And there are no signs around me other than the news (which really is just a proxy to the Internet and vice versa). How could I care for something that isn't present in my real life?

You could feel sorry for the innocent lives lost due to unwarranted violence. Just maybe.

I think the internet is a tremendous tool and has its uses, but shouldn't be confused with the actual outside world, where the things happen that we talk about online. Not to say things don't happen online, like internet bullying, but again those issues stem from problems outside the computer.

It's tough, no doubt, to care about something that doesn't influence you directly. And that problem is showing itself all over the country right now. I think it's critically important to try and connect with these people, our fellow humans around the world, because at some point the things happening to them could happen to you.

Yeah. It's really sad that this violence is so common at this point people are becoming desensitized to it which is the opposite of what should be happening if we ever want to progress at all.

The world is a fucked up place.

Seen some footage that can't be unseen.

I think the shit will hit the fan soon in the EU, people will be fed up with stuff like this.

France has become a huge target lately, and it's just really sad.
