What do you think of selfies? Do you take selfies? Do you think they are stupid? I recently saw a lame article - it was a list for things men should and shouldn't do. One of which was selfies. I guess the author felt selfies were vapid and stupid, and that men should go read a book instead or something. Personally, I thought his article was fucking stupid for telling men not to tell other men what to do, while proceeding to tell men what to do. I tried to find that article again and couldn't.

I don't take selfies a lot. Right now I'm pretty insecure about how my lame hair is growing in and I wish I had never shaved it for my surgery. When I do, I am use filters and angles that flatter my face, but that's because I take the occasional selfie for myself - not for others.

I have nothing against using the camera myself to take a picture of my face. Also, people who make lists of what other people should or should not do are pretty lame. I feel like the only thing I'd genuinely put there would be "don't break the law" type stuff. Like...don't rape women. Don't murder somebody. But giving fashion advice and shit like that....nope, apply that to your own life and be happy. (Have you seen how many people apparently have strong opinions on men wearing cargo shorts? wtf!! why does that matter to you bruh)

So yeah. I take pictures of myself (either just to show off good makeup/hair days, take a picture in a location, or...whatever) It's much easier to "construct" the picture if I can see myself and angle/move around accordingly.

Yeah the list was really trite. The person wrote it from moral and intellectual high-ground. But really it was trashy and self-righteous. Someone on Facebook shared it and that's how I found it.

And I agree. That's something I like about selfies. I don't really have people in my life who will capture moments candidly. I have to do it myself if I want a tangible memory, y'know?

Edit: Found the list. http://average2alpha...-to-stop-doing/

You know it's gonna be bad when the domain name literally epitomizes douche-bro culture: "average2alpha" lol. Some of the things in the list aren't bad - like the entitlement one. But telling men not to cry about things? Don't watch porn? Don't watch TV? Don't sleep in? Don't be lazy? Don't pout about anything negative in your life? You HAVE to be positive guys, all the time, or you're a failure. Pfft.

 this is so stupid.

Anyway, on the topic: I've always HATED taking pictures of myself. I've never really liked my hair, because I can't do much with it, or at least that's what people have told me whenever I go cut my hair lol. I also have acne, so I don't really like to show them off :p but they're almost gone now, so I'm starting to take pictures when I'm with other people. Haven't reached the selfie area yet, though.

I only really take pictures of my lone face when I want to show off my eyes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But I don't see a problem with selfies. It's just a picture.

EXACTLYYY!!! Just a picture :)
BTW go to a dermatologist for the acne, or maybe update your skincare routine :o

And lol that article / website has got to be trolling. But also, I feel like a hypocrite for thinking that they're ignorant in their way of thinking, because I'm doing the same thing that article is doing, just with a different perspective. You can't win sometimes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm glad you mentioned it, I have no idea why this happens -- I love wearing cargo shorts LOL

Yeah but we're not publishing articles about how people shouldn't be self-righteous douche-bros. We're just laughing at the ridiculousness of their ironic, hypocritical list of trash.

I fucking hate when people hate on selfies.

I think we should all love ourselves and if we want to take a photo because we feel good about the way we look then all the more power to that. I think a lot of people struggle with self esteem issues and if they are having a good day and want to take a picture, that's fucking awesome.

im not a big fan of share online all of my selfies, but sometimes i upload a bunch of them on instagram, facebook or snapchat, just for fun

i dont think is too stupid, maybe someone can look stupid taking selfies, but that doesnt makes you brainless. #Iglovers #Selfie #NotStupid

Some people think that selfies are an egocentric act caused by social networks and their issue of "I exist before the world".

But well, I think selfies aren't that bad 'cause hm... well... To give an example : i'm the first to tell bad things of myself as "i'm ugly" or whatever. And when I take selfies, these are the only time I feel great about myself  :lol2: A touch of self-confidence has never hurt anyone, right ?

I'm not a selfie kinda guy. I have non existent self esteem and wouldn't make people look at me.

I take one every few years though

I don't really care if people take selfies as long as they aren't all I see in my social media feed.

I take a decent amount of selfies. I usually hate them, because I'm human, but I always end up appreciating them later on when they pop up on timehop or whatever because they usually involve a small person and I like seeing how we change. If I didn't take selfies, I wouldn't have any pictures of myself with the kids.

I love cargo shorts on boys. It means they have more pockets for my shit.

I only take selfies for Snapchats, but I do message people on Snapchat pretty often. I try to be subtle about it though, since I know theres a sort of stigma against it, and I don't go overboard trying to look super good. But I have been called out for making the same face in every selfie, which I find funny because it's kind of true. Angled slightly up, slight smile, eyes open wider than usual.

I think going overboard on selfies is dumb (eg. A group of teenagers sitting around all night taking selfies of everything they do), but in moderation I wouldn't say I notice it.

Depends on context. If you've gone somewhere or done something and it's documenting that in some way and it just so happens to include your face, fair enough. If you're just taking selfies for the sake of it and you're taking multiple photos, and you're doing this every day, and uploading a near identical photo every day, then that's pure narcissism.

Generally, I think you should be able to look at a photo and know without captions and hashtags, what was happening at that time. Where you were, or who you were with or what had just happened etc. If it's you sat at your home in your bedroom by yourself, and your uploading it purely because you feel the need for everyone to look at your face to feel relevant, I think you're pretty tedious.

I don't bother with social media, but a friend sent me a screenshot of a mutual acquaintance's instagram, where she'd uploaded a collage of 4 selfies, all very similar, clearly from the same time and place. That time and place being "a Saturday afternoon in her house by herself'. And that makes her a vacuous bint who needs to get a grip, and probably some therapy about her self-obsession.

I personally don't like taking selfies, because I look odd. The camera needs to be farther away than my arm allows. I would probably go crazy for selfies if I had a camera that I could operate from a distance with one of those clickers. I take selfies to send to my mom when I'm away, but I don't upload or send them to friends because I don't see the necessity to send them pictures of me. I do take a lot of pictures of things that I find interesting or nice that I send to them from time to time, but they don't have my face in them. It's not my face or outfit that I want to share with them, the cool thing that I want them to see takes center stage. They know I took the picture. They don't need proof of me being in the shot to confirm, nor do they care about having that proof. If I really want myself in the shot, I usually ask someone to take a picture for me.

These idiots where I live took selfies in front of a national heritage site that was burning to the ground and posted their asinine, grinning faces publically on social media. I don't understand that sort of thing. Neither did the other citizens, because they furiously attacked the characters of the selfie-takers until they issued grovelling apologies for their lapse in judgement. People like that annoy me, but it's because they're idiots. Their ability to take selfies is just making it more obvious, but isn't the cause of their idiocy.

I don't see anything wrong with some self love, if you think you're looking good and want to take a selfie then go ahead. I think if you can hate on someone for feeling good about themselves then that's more a reflection of you as a person. Idk maybe you're own self esteem is low so it's more jealousy coming out, or maybe you hated the person to begin with so their face is a constant reminder of something you would love to punch more than anything :p Or maybe you're just a miserable cunt who enjoys hating on everything. Who knows, whatever the reason go take your negative ass somewhere else, and go drag someone else down with you into your pit of miserable hatey cunteyness (i'm pretty sure that's a term :p). You can silently loathe tho, that's okay as long as you're not actively trying to put them down for it.

And the thing about what men should or shouldn't do is a bunch of bullshittery. Going by their standards of being alpha as fuck, surely letting someone else tell you what you should do would make you less manly and more of a bitch, how are you gonna let someone else boss you about like that right?  Besides I do a looot of shit that men "shouldn't do" and I'm doing more than okay  ^_^

I get drunk and watch Grease, singing and all. I'm manly as fuck.

I take a lot of selfies because I'm gorgeous. I try my best to like all of my friends selfies because I like looking at their faces. if men don't take selfies how are they gonna set up their tinder profiles? Sounds like whomever made that rule is painfully insecure and wants men to be as insecure about their masculinity as they are. No Bueno.

I like selfies, I usually binge on them if I'm feeling really good about my makeup on a certain day and I have an album of selfies on my phone. I'm superficial and narcissistic, I know it already. But it's not the only thing I do (or even a large part of my life for that matter) or the only thing I take pictures of, so I think it's fine. If anything, it's useful to always have a picture at the ready to use when you sign up for a new forum or something that requires a profile pic.

I actually haven't taken one in a couple of months since I haven't found a new "selfie spot" with good lighting/backdrop - my last one was in my dorm which I've since moved out of.

Also, about men taking selfies - I think it's much more accepted in Asian culture than in American/European culture. imo, if you look good and feel good about yourself then just fucking do it. I wish my bf sent me more selfies, he always sends me shit snapchats but expects me to send him a picture of my beautiful made up face. haha noep

For everyone that likes taking selfies, I'd recommend Camera360 for editing.

I mostly hide my face and show off my outfit. My friend jokes he's seen my midriff more than my face.
