FOR A SURGE OF CRANE FLIES?

IT MAY BE THE LAST HUGE CRANWAKENING IN YOUR LIFE DUE TO GLOBAL WARMING

1024px-Tipulidae_Luc_Viatour.jpg

This year may prove to be exceptionally buggy, but when and how future crane flies burst from the earth remains uncertain, thanks to climate change.

Note: Over here in the US, where we speak English, they're known as skeeter-eaters or gollywhoppers.

Those things look absolutely horrific! How much is that picture magnified?! Calling them skeeter-eaters and gollywhoppers doesn't make them look any less terrifying :|

And... THEY BURST OUT OF THE GROUND?!

Thank goodness they don't have these things down south. It's bad enough with the roaches without adding those nightmares on top :|

Come on. They're not a big deal at all. We have them here too, they just fly around stupidly until you kill them.

The looming spread poses no safety concerns. Though they look like large mosquitoes, the flies are harmless and do not bite humans.

To be fair, the article isn't very interesting, other than the fact that UK's soil is going through changes that aren't exactly good :p

Nah, they're fairly common here. I think y'all have them down there too, actually. Unless I'm thinking of some other giant, harmless, flying bug, which is totally possible I guess.

It's not lol. I just think NatGeo's version of fear-mongering is funny.

I'm sad I'm not in the UK right now.

Before you judge me, I love entomology, studying insects, and getting pictures with/of them.

Such a fucking disappointment :(

If it makes you feel better, this is what we call daddy long-legs here.
