I'm just going to leave this here.

I personally advocate for equality among how people are treated based on their hobbies and interests. It bugs me silly that some people seem to be "allowed" hobbies and interests while others seemingly aren't. Now, I dont really play Pokemon-Go, however, there was a meme about it around a while back that said- "Whenever you feel Stupid remember there are people outside looking for Pokemon". While i believe that the meme was intended to be insincere and harmless, it certainly doesn't contribute to any #lovewins campaign.

I am a geeky nerd, but happy to be one. Hugs and High-fives to my fellow geekers. :)

I like that she says it doesn't really ever get better -- because it doesn't. It does not. For some of us, we're left out and we never stop getting left out, or we never stop feeling left out.

Ooh I saw this on facebook! And it really hit a nerve. I don't think even some of my bestfriends will ever support that I love to play online games or attend things like fan expo or dress up .. they just of 'accept' it as a quirky thing that I do and that we don't ever talk about. God forbid if I ever told them that I post here .. :(

I think it's weird what's considered geeky. Is They Might Be Giants really... geeky? Maybe it depends on where you're from. Maybe I just had a big indie kid scene when I was growing up? Seems strange to me. Sorry you guys haven't found your communities yet! They're out there, just keep looking.

Eh, I kinda grew up as a loser that didn't really have many if any friends.

I never really cared about much more than 'nerdy stuff' (Hence why this is the community I'm most active in, I can talk about that stuff here)

I remember by the time I reached middle school the stuff I liked wasn't really 'cool' anymore. Everyone was obsessed with those 'reality' shows on MTV. I never cared for them and found them kinda dumb and boring.

Until kinda recently I didn't really understand why all my friends stopped liking me back then.

I'm 24 and I still don't have any real life friends. Not that I'm /that/ upset about it. But it never really got better for me either.

I'm still that weird guy who doesn't care about much outside of video games and cartoons.

Yeah I was that kid growing up. Too nerdy to hang around with the "normal" kids and not smart enough to keep up with the geek kids. I spent a lot of time on my own either reading or on Neo till I learnt to tone down that side of myself.

I'm so glad I found my husband. He's just as nerdy as me and he was just as lonely growing up.

I recently got in contact with a guy I knew in high school who it turns out had also been suppressing that side of himself through school. He had a bit of mental health trouble and has now decided not to hide that side of himself any more. We get together once a week to play board games and video games  :lol2:
