Note: I'm not trying to endorse them in anyway.

Hey guys, I was scrolling through my subscription feed and this one really caught my eye. Basically, what these people are trying to do is create a wing inside of the democratic party that is mainly for the people. The party is trying to resemble the ideology of Bernie Sanders and rid the Establishment Democrats. Sanders did win 23 states against Hillary and 47% of the vote so I'm thinking a lot of people would join if they knew about it.

Well, I obviously think this would be great in theory, but I have many doubts. IF indeed this movement gained traction, would you guys think that having "Justice Democrats" (that's what they are going by) run the Democratic Party be more beneficial than the ones running it today? I would love to hear your reasoning.

Here is a longer, more in-depth video if you guys are interested

This is there platform...

Anything is better than Trump (as long as it's not Pence, he's just as bad).

I'm a huge bernie supporter myself, so I would join. I believe that Bernie has wonderful ideas for our country, doesn't claim things he hasn't done (Hillary). The system is messed up, and we need real change. We need someone who's not paid off by billionaires and is only concerned with reelection, which is what a huge part of the house and senate members do. We need someone who will help people get jobs, college students not falling into debt just to get an education they need to get a job, the environment needs to be protected (Trump just said ok on the Dakota pipeline), someone who will do anything possible to avoid a war (Hillary voted for them), someone who understands that not everyone needs a gun (especially those failing mental health and criminal background checks, so no more gun shows where they can bypass the checks), someone who understands that thousands of people starve in this country because no matter how much/hard they work they don't have enough to get by. We need someone who is "by the people and for the people" and not "by the millionaires and for the billionaires".

If I think of anything else to go with this, I'll let you know.

If the Democrats want to continue to exist after this past election, they have to go to the left.

I'm not sure what you meant by that, how is it like the Tea Party?

I'm with you 100% haha. We did need change, though Trump wasn't what I had in mind.

I think he means that the Justice Democrats will become crazed like the Tea Party is. They'll start off good, and then just go trying to shove their ideology on everyone and refusing to accept anything else.

The problem is third-parties aren't really viable with first-past-the-post voting systems. That said, if this particular progressive party could replace Democratic Party as a whole, I think it could work. But that's a whole challenge I'm not really qualified to recommend solutions for, tbh. I don't really like the name they choose though. However, I understand why they would avoid terms like democratic socialist party and stuff. lol.

Yup, it's weird to see a meaningful word like "justice" carry a stigma in these recent years. Perhaps one of the biggest mistakes this platform made.

My friends tried to start a Democratic Socialist  Party club here, and they had one meeting before the whole thing went under.

Sadly, here in the US now, Justice is neither blind nor balanced ("fair") anymore. If we made a new statue to go above the supreme court her eyes would be open, and instead of the balance she carries she'd be holding a huge stack of cash.

Yeah, it's sort of a loaded word and I worry it relates too much to "social justice movements" which a very vocal group of people hate. It shouldn't really be a loaded word. We should all care or believe in social justice, but there are radicals even in social justice movements, and people are too ignorant to really examine whether they are deciding to dislike/hate a movement based on something radical they viewed/experienced or logical and valid reasons. And then there are just full-blown bigots, lol. I think it's poor word choice and I think the organizers didn't consider how much words can carry. We have to think about the context of our words and the sociopolitical climate when we decide to name things - which is challenging since national and global movements need simplistic terms to stay organized, otherwise that leads to fuckloads of misunderstanding and in-fighting.

I hope the party succeeds though. I hope to see a more progressive movement. It's time. Everyone has been fucked assbackwards, and I'm scared for our children and grandchildren, tbh. I stopped affiliating with Democrats. I mean I never really did except for officially to vote. But now I just call myself a democratic socialist because I can't even officially toe the line anymore.

This times 10000. The tea party was terrible for all politics. Liberals hate it for obvious reasons. Normal conservative/republicans hate it because they were extremist and anyone who ever dared try to compromise was threatened with being kicked out of office. I don't think we as a country need any more political extremism right now. I think we need compromise more than ever.

I honestly don't understand how this could be extreme. I always thought the idea of Liberal extremism were in fact the SJW and femanazi community. I don't know how trying to take out the Establishment in our government "extremism".
