It took me a few in-game years but I realized you're suppose to fill your pet's water bowl each day with the water can.

Got curious and googled it...
# Apparently it is just purely cosmetic...
# But it can also help you get more +rep for final farm evaluation.
I haven't played it past the first Summer so, that's new fact for me
