Oddly enough, this could be an electrical problem. When the chemicals in certain plastic electrical components overheat/burn, they can produce a strong fishy odor. Check your outlets and fixtures to see if you can locate the source.

I had this happen over the summer and I thought the smell was coming from my air conditioner, but it turned out the inside of an outlet behind my bed was burnt to a crisp. It was pretty scary to learn I had been sleeping next to a massive fire hazard.
