I forgot I usually disregard the spelling of 'pteri', and just say 'pee-tree', because mother fucking land before time.

That is because the only way to call them IS 'pee-tree'. Mother fucking tree stars and shit!

 

Also, if you listen very closely, you will hear a 'th' where a 'ph' should be. Point and laugh if you find it.

I usually say gif and jif any time I use the word because everyone seems to have a different opinion and I don't care enough about the word for someone to give me a hard time Naturally I guess I'd say gif.

Apparently, it's common for native English speakers to lose certain sounds in specific words. Like a lot of people pronounce 'rainbow' as 'raimbow' because of the way we move our lips. Hard t sounds are often lost too. I read an article about speech perception and pronunciation that talks about why we change sounds or lose hard consonants. Let me see if I can dig it up, it was really interesting.
