At least you didn't leave the spoon in eh?

That is true! The spoon was not in the microwave.

I was cooking once and turned the wrong burner on.  Turned around to add stuff to the pot and there was just a column of smoke, because the burner I turned on had a plastic Pyrex lid on top of it.  Somehow managed to not set the smoke detector off and had red plastic goop on that burner until I moved out (and then they replaced the oven lmao)

I was cooking bacon with my friend. Long story short she got a 2nd degree burn on her hand. I slept in an uncomfortable chair next to her bed for a few days because they had to transfer us 4 hours away to a burn unit in Georgia so she could get a cadaver skin graft. So... good times.

I read "cadaver skin graft" and after that nothing else mattered. O_o

Might as well add my story anyway...

Makin' some stir fry.  Add the oil to the wok.  Woops, too much oil, better pour some out.  A tiny drop of oil went down the outside of the wok to the gas burner below. FWOOF!  I had a huge oil fire after the flames followed the trail of the oil drop.  Luckily my roommate knew how to stop it by dumping salt over everything.  The wok was ruined though and I'm a little paranoid of oil going over the edge of pans now.

Ummmmm... when I was a little girl, I put a stick of butter from the fridge to the microwave (it had an aluminum paper wrapper). I just wanted to soften it up and use it for toast because we were out of tub butter! Yeah, that's the day I learned you don't put aluminum in the microwave.

I worked at Subway. The bags that Subway puts their cookies in for the customers are held together by staples. I used the last bag and didn't think to check for the staple. It was the end of the night and the cookie was for me and I wanted to make it all warm and chewy! Yeah... needless to say, I blew up the microwave and my cookie was gone! I cost the company a lot fo money for that microwave lol.

I put a cup of coffee in the microwave with the spoon in it. (I was sadly an adult at this point). I didn't blow up the microwave luckily, but I did get a cool sparks show!

At least you didn't leave the spoon in eh?

Hahaha... no, but I did (Read story above)

I once tried to bake banana bread with a microwave oven. Stopped it to check on it, then put it back in for the next 20 minutes. Before I know it, smoke it everywhere, everyone is freaking out and there's this HORRIBLE SMELL. Turns out I set it to microwave for 20 minutes.

I burnt popcorn so bad we had to throw out the microwave.

The house smelled disgusting for like a week!

I'm a decent cook nowadays but I've got a few stories from about a year ago when I was just kinda learning. I suppose I'll list them in order :p

  1. This is the worst one by far. The first time I tried to fry some food in a pan, I put the oil in the pan and put it on about medium for a few minutes, and for some reason I expected it to sizzle or something with just the oil in there (lol), so I figured I had to heat it up more. Put it on higher and waited a few minutes, still didn't hear any sizzling or any reaction at all. So... I put the lid on the pan. :bag: After a couple minutes I smelled smoke leaking out from the lid so I opened it up and my entire goddamn apartment instantly filled with smoke. Super lucky it didn't start an actual fire.
  2. Not nearly as bad, but still a mess: First time I made rice, I SERVERELY underestimated how much it would expand. Like, you hear about how much rice expands and I thought I took that into account by only making a few cups of rice in a giant pot... I made a solid like FULL FULL HUGE pot jammed with rice. Plus I figured I could just boil beans in the same water. Nope. Ended up with a shit ton of rice with undercooked beans in it. And I haven't made rice since.
  3. First actual fire wasn't completely my fault. I was going to boil some carrots and so I took out a bundle of carrots and pulled the elastic off and it shot somewhere off in the room. I couldn't find the elastic but I was like, whatever, the apartment is a mess anyway. Turns out the elastic somehow got under the pot of water I was boiling and caught fire on the stove top.

Good times.

When I was younger I had a toaster oven that I would always put bread in and forget about. I had this piece of bread that I toasted probably 5 or 6 times over the course of a couple hours and it came out rock hard. Needless to say, I don't toast my bread before I eat it anymore :'D

I used to always completely burn the popcorn in the microwave and I've set the fire alarm off multiple times because of it.

...I also constantly forget to turn the fan on when I'm cooking. I was just searing some meat on a pan when I set the alarm off and it took nearly 2 hours to stop.

Thankfully, nowadays, I stick to cooking things that are substantially easier and difficult to screw up...can't go wrong with cup noodles, honestly. (Except the time I wasn't looking and ended up pouring the hot water all over my hand instead of in the cup.)

How?

I'm actually a really good cook and I fucking love to cook when I feel well and have energy. I've only had one failure where the food was inedible. The first time I made curry - that shit did not go so well. We ended up ordering pizza that night. I've since managed to make an edible curry. xD And occasionally I burn my bacon in the oven when I get distracted.

lmao i was just listening to music and I was distracted

and i forgot to put the water in the cup of noodles which is apparently a very important step in making microwaved ramen noodles

so i put the waterless noodles in the microwave and smoke was coming out

aaand so there was a huge black hole in the middle of the noodles and it smelled gross

edit: I mean ok i'm pretty sure they were on fire and i stopped it before my house burned to ashes
