Kellie and I finally managed to beat PCOS. We've got a beautiful baby girl due to arrive in December this year  

Now onto the question...

Please know we live in QLD in Australia. But out Current vehicle is a Ford Falcon, but its getting on in age and we're probably better off switching to a newer, smaller, cheaper to register and run vehicle. Only issue is, our vehicle choosing prowess doesn't exist. My father stupidly made me choose the Falcon we now have and even though its got us from A to B, its definitely not the car I'd have chosen myself at the time, and cost more than I thought I would have spent back then. 
 

Can only drive Automatic, love the look of Sedans and Mini SUV's, wouldn't like a vehicle larger than a Mitsubishi ASX and wagons are feral looking. 

So help me with car suggestions?

im not even mediocre at giving car recommendations, but my mum has an i20 (or 30), that zips her around town pretty good... she also has two car seats in the back. Good luck car hunting.

Oh god, my father is continually saying i30 this, i30 that. When we were in his i30 it was rough as hell...

Well budget is a bit this and that. Baby will probably be here before we can organise a new vehicle, so having a dependant will likely reduce the budget, at least as far as I understand places will likely allow us to borrow less. So I dunno tbh. Wanting something newer, safer, same size or smaller, 4 cyl, automatic. Hopefully reliable.

I have actually taken a liking to the C-HR, it however costs quite a bit, and I can't find many used models at decent prices yet. Definitely drawn towards the Mazda CX-3 as well.

Speaking of the Mazda CX-3, my missus has an S-Touring edition in the Soul Red paint. It's an amazing little SUV and such a joy to drive. We paid a little over 20K for it just over 2 years ago with 22thou kilometres on the clock. You can of course pick them up cheaper now and would highly recommend them for sure. The only downside for us is that it's a little small for a family of 2 adults/3 kids. Being that this will be your first child, it will be more than sufficient in size for you, your missus and bubs.

Yea definitely considering. However I think we may need to try for a bit more boot space. Actually going to take a look at the Mazda 2 and 3 in sedan and a few others in a few weeks. Going to be a awhile before we manage to actually do anything about getting a newer vehicle however. Still in the last 11 months of paying off the personal loan.

i20's seem to be discontinued... Guess they're an older model. We tested out the i30 tho but my wife feels its a bit rough feeling.

I've also got the 2015 Mazda 3 hatch too. This is my daily driver to and from work and it's amazing on fuel. It also has a substantial boot capacity and the fact that you can fold the seats down 60/40 is great too for larger loads whilst still having a booster seat/baby capsule in the car. It's also very comfortable and nice to drive. The updated model that came out in 2016 I think? improved on the handling/ride comfort even further with the addition of Mazda's G-Vectoring control and standard safety features like lane keep assist/smart city brake support/reverse camera etc which were only an option on my model.
