Is that the smartest thing to do? I mean, your host has full access to the database, and as far as I know invision doesn't encrypt any of the posts, so they could read anything they wanted that way.

Uh-oh! Maybe our host wanted to participate in our community, and we banned hi'm straight away!
But then again, they could've used another name :D

I belive most hosts have a clause somewhere in their AUP that allows them to monitor their clients, perhaps because someone complained. And, due to the rules against anything illegal I don't think we have anything to hide.

the reson I did it was because our host is checking up on us and if someone was to post warez and host seen it before an admin got the chance to erase it we could be deleted from there server without notice

No, a reasonable host wouldn't remove you because of a forum post, they'd contact you and ask you to remove it first.

They either host it themselves, or get an offshore host in scandinavia or some other 3rd world country.

I want to host this site myself.... but I probably wont be able to do that for another year...ill do it when I'm in college...

would a t1 line or t3 line be fast enough to support it?

Uhhh, I don't know if that's such a good idea.  T3 might be able to handle it, and you'd need a dedicated system.

You'd need a super fast comp and even faster connection... u can calculate the needed connection speed from monthly bandwidth usage stats :(

The connection's the main thing you have to worry about, most computers can handle apache just fine. Just get a spare computer, and leave it on all the ti'me..

But yeah... the connection IS the most I'mportant... I'll be running a fileserver soon, but this'll be a bit tough with this 100k connection ;)
