This topic is five years old....

All the better! :D Just goes to show some topics remain interesting throughout time, and that there have always been ignorant people around.

It just goes to show that you dig up 5 year old topics to spam and keep your post count up.

On the topic of fat, I am tolerant and respect people. That's it. You know why? Someone elses body is none of my fucking business and my body shouldn't be anyone elses business. If I have a heart attack it my fault and responsibility and not any of you 'preachers' fault.

Myself I am fat and plus size, and despite the mockery I'm really okay with that. Just because I am fat doesn't mean I have to hate myself. I love myself, I love myself the way I am (and yes I can stand to diet, and I am doing it slowly and steadily). To have a good body you also have to have a good state of mind.

It didn't really remain interesting if the last post before your first one wasn't several years old, if it HAD stayed interesting, there'd be a little more conversation going on in here.

I have little to no sympathy. A slow metabolism is absolutely no excuse for unhealthiness, you live accordingly, eat a little less, exercise a little more.

Likewise, I'm unsympathetic to those who claim they "can't" lose weight. Eat well and less and exercise more. If you're still unable to lose weight then go to the doctor because there's probably something else wrong. <_<

WHATEVER. Chow mein is disgusting anyway. > : (

@MsRose: Thanks!

I know posting my picture may make people insult me, whatever, I'm over that stage. I have a blog dedicated to plus size fashion/outfits for fucks sakes... posting on some forum where a lot of people don't even post their own pictures, like I'd take their words seriously.

Again. Why don't people mind their own business, they pretend to care, but in reality they're disgusted. Yeah. You can be grossed out all you want. In the end it's not your body it's theirs. They're the ones who will suffer. They're going to pay for their bad mistakes in health. No need to police them. Just watch your own body and shut up.

Totally agree with this, probably doesn't help that my major is in Nutrition though (:

Thyroid problems are likely if you're eating right, exercising frequently, and still can't drop weight.
If you can't drop weight and you're sleeping retarded amounts of hours, there's a good chance you're hypo-thyroid.

It's how I found out I was hypo-thyroid, because I was legitimately sleeping 18+ hours a day and still being tired o.o
Getting your thyroid balanced on medications can be a never ending battle though, which sucks.

I didn't mean money, but health wise. I guess that's what angers people but there's plenty of other people like SMOKERS who have health problems and take up your health care $ too.

Skinny people can get bad cholesterol and high blood pressure and even DIABEETUS. I know a few who are like ~140 lbs and have Diabetes type 2. Just because you're skinny doesn't mean you're healthy. You can weigh 80 lbs (like my cousins) and they eat out everyday to unhealthy foods and greasy shit. There's skinny people who run and get tired after a while. There's being fit and being unfit. Believe it or not there's plenty of big people who exercise too. Just becuase you don't see it and just because you judge appearance doesn't mean it's not true.

Weight doesn't always tell you if you're healthy or not. I am not going to deny lots of morbidly obese people out there are having those problems but if anyone's going to play the ALL FAT PEOPLE ARE UNHEALTHY BEASTS that's just generalizing it.

The point of a thread in the debate section is to debate it. Since this topic has been brought back, there has been much positive debate going on. I feel this has been a huge success. :D p.s. your sig is great.

I give it a week before it has been forgotten again, they'll get bored eventually, and if they don't, there is only so much you can debate about when it comes to fat people.

LOL.
I bought it at a thrift store! Haha. I don't think the Gap sells dalmatians.

And true that. There's repulsive skinny people, average people and fat people. Heh.

I have nothing against fat people; so long as they:

A) Don't take their insecurities out on other people.

or B) Congregate.

Otherwise, hey! All the best.

I'm well aware you meant health-wise, my point was that it still affects me and I have every right to take an interest regardless of whether or not I'm the one physically suffering. Yes, I'm just as annoyed about paying for health problems that smokers inflict on themselves as I am about overweight people or alcoholics or any number of groups that do nothing to help themselves. I feel that everyone owes it to themselves (and others, especially where socialised healthcare is concerned) to be the healthiest they can be. I hope one day, I'll finally manage to quit smoking for good. Until that point., I'll opt out of the NHS and into private healthcare. Why should anyone else be forced to pay out for my bad choices?

Oh dear, please don't put words into my mouth. At NO POINT, did I say that being skinny automatically render you healthy. Arguably, being "skinny" poses just as many health risks. Nor did I say that any illnesses only affect the overweight. Of course being a healthy weight doesn't suddenly make you immune to a whole range of illnesses. It's precisely that fact that I don't understand, unfortunately the human body can be a fairly fragile thing, why do anything to increase the risks of it failing? Like I said in my original post, if people are clearly overweight yet eating well and exercising then it warrants a trip to the doctor because there's a good chance of there being an underlying problem whether it be thyroid issues, PCOS etc. Better to catch that quickly and take the appropriate measures than to carry on and risk other health issues later.

There are genuinely very few excuses to not be eating a reasonable, balanced diet and doing a decent amount of exercise. Maybe lack of education, parental control over food, time...So much money has been pushed into healthy eating campaigns in the UK that lack of education is ceasing to be that valid a reason. Frankly I'd rather that more of my money was spent on education programs and support networks than giving someone a gastric band. I have no issue with the NHS being used to help people sustain a healthier lifestyle, I resent the people who choose to ignore the help offered and then expect the public to fork out later because their choices have had a consequence they don't like.

I did not put words in your mouth or point it towards you, but I meant this in general. I'm sorry you felt like I was attacking you. I was more talking to the fat people haters.
I do agree with the majority of what you say here. People who smoke, people who are so morbidly obese they cannot walk and people who cause damage to themselves ... people should never have to pay out for those mistakes. However my point is I wish that people would stop de-humanizing fat people. They're just as much of a person as a smoker (who makes the choice to smoke fyi) and alcoholics. They choose to put the food in their mouth so how is it any different than those people. It's sad people treat smokers as a "person" but fat people are treated lower than low. I am not super morbidly obese than I cannot walk or have health problems (in fact I am pretty healthy for someone who is fat, whatever.)

I agree that a lot of those programs are a waste of time. Like Michelle Obama's overweight child campaign or whatever. I totally agree with giving the $ to the proper education fund instead of the mistakes poor choices and parenting made.

^Amen.

I'm pretty tolerant with people that are a little on the scale of overweight, or in kinder terms "chubby". I'll always prefer someone to be physically active, but abit on the bigger side, than someone else who's BMI is below 19 and yet eats MickeyDs every single meal.
But obese ( > 30 pounds over the recommended weight) is a completely different thing...no way in the freakin world am I buying the idea that someone eating "3 square meals a day" with minimal exercise can go that far of letting their body go.
Based on my experience -- I was once about 170 pounds (and around 5ft10in) during middle school, so yeah I was fat. I decided to gradually change my eating habits, and even started exercising. Last time I checked I was around 140 (and I'm a second year UC student). I mean it's really not as hard to lose weight as it seems...just dedicate as little as 30 minutes a day with walking, or skipping dessert after meals (or eating smaller portions of it). Whenever someone just says that "they can't lose weight" or they're genetically fat is rather irresponsible on that person's behalf. All it takes is a little reevaluation of how you treat your body, and making even the slightest change to some things that appear to be unnecessary.
