My high-school nurse only came on Tuesdays lol, and the only thing she was ever used for is condoms, and once in a while we would go visit her and strike up a conversation cause she was kinda cute My college is a lot better though. They're there all the time and provide meds/beds/cute females in the nursing program.

Why not, you don't HAVE to do shit to make friends..
it could be just common interests that put you all together? Maybe sports or something?

School nurses are useless. they have one for like 5 schools. The nurse visits one a day for like 3 hours and leaves.

Don't have a school nurse but the government gives a free medical check up once a year. The school has a dentist though and I love me some free teeth whitening.

The only time I went there was when I needed ice for swelling for injuries. Other then that I brought my own pain meds and etc

I meant I only had a small group of friends in school because most people wanted to go out and do things outside of school, whereas I felt spending 6 hours a day Mon-Fri with them was enough.

We don't have a school nurse at my school. The only one available is a teacher who's the leader of the Red Cross in our school. Of course, it really is just more of a 'leader of clubs' than an actual knowledgeable first aider, so when something happens, all the teachers do is kind of...Panic? IMO, there should be a nurse stationed at our school. Sure, most of the time nothing happens, but they're there when something does happen. Things like grazed knees and cut hands won't have to be treated by teachers anymore, especially since most of them don't really know much other than really basic things like applying medications.

Well, as a school nurse - they do not have the same training/knowledge that your personal doctor may have.

It makes total sense that they're not allowed to give you whatever medicine you may desire because
1.) You may be allergic to it and you might never know
2.) People may easily abuse this to OD on certain drugs. It's going to be a lot harder to get a doctor or a hospital to keep prescribing you a drug especially if you don't actually need it.

Plus, schools don't want to be held responsible if a mistake puts a child's life in danger. There's just too much legal troubles involved.

Uhm well, our school nurse is pointless. She's only there from 9 to 12. She doesn't have an office, either. So if you're going to be sick, make it after 12, so then they'll just send you straight home. I had a fever once and the bitch didn't even know how to use the thermometer.

I think we shared her with another school. So from 12 to 4 she was somewhere else.

At my elementary school we had one though. She was useless. Once I put my contacts in funny and ended up with some red in my eyes because of the irritation and she said I had pink eye and sent me home...not that I minded getting sent home....

I think as long as someone has the adequate training (all the necessary certs) then a registered nurse isnt really necessary. In most work environments, it's usually a designated employee (or employee's that volunteer) that know first aid and what not.

The university nurse is pretty helpful. It's no hassle getting Paracetamol for headaches and other pains. Hell, he even gave a professor Valium for a migraine. I heard it just made everything trippy though.

School nurses don't do anything. On wednesday I decided I didn't feel like writing an essay and decided that I would take advantage of having a small cold so at the end of Calc I went to the teacher and was like"My head and throat hurt. Can I go to the nurse?" He gave me a slip of paper and I went to the nurse who took my temp and heart rate and looked in my throat and was like"I can't really do anything so just call home." and I just called my mom and went home. In other news, I've actually had to stay home sick since then haha

i think school nurses are very useful....first off theyre needed in case of an emergency but more importantly i think sometimes people just feel like theyre useless because if you say you're sick it seems like they dont do much of anything but they see hundreds of students over the course of a school year and if we're talking about like middle school and high school nurses, most of these kids are just trying to find a way to leave school. I remember my high school nurse would still take every student seriously and be so caring....i was feeling sick like one time so i ended up going there for a bit and she was so helpful

I'm sure they don't get paid very much at all, so we shouldn't expect them to know and be able to help with everything. Otherwise they'd be a doctor and get paid way more.
