Hmm... I have to say Windows. Linux is knocked out of the fight, because I've never used it. Mac... I hate it. With a passion. Windows is designed around convenience, whereas Mac isn't. Mac is more successful in fighting off virii and staying protected and stuff. Windows fails at that, and Mac gives you more control, but I like the easiness of windows.

Windows is more compatible and although I havnt used Linux, I have heard its more complicated. The layout and feel of macs just dont appeal to me. Plus Windows is the most common OS.

Depends on what you mean.... if you're talking about most user friendly, Windows. I have never used Linux, and I've seen a friend use mac a long time ago, I didn't like it. I want linux

As any computer pro will tell you, it all depends on what you're using it for!! I can say one thing though, any production-critical device we have here, from DNS and DHCP servers to our Monitoring Servers, linux is definitely the OS of choice when it comes to security and reliability. IMO, Windows takes the cake in office productivity and obviously Mac is unstoppable when it comes to graphic design. Actually, the place I work is an excellent indication of each OS's strengths and weaknesses.

as much crap as it gets, windows is by far the most user-friendly, if you want something done easily, or want something done efficiently, use windows
if you want something to run a music-system, or some related field, get a mac

linux shouldn't be an option, there are ONE too many distributions of linux, otherwise what i know of linux as is just a text interface like DOS, unlike a desktop manager for linux.. i'd recommend being more specific, like the debian distribution, or .. you get the picture

Oh my friend, I know people who would definitely freak out if they saw those words. While most of us assume windows is the most efficient, it really doesn't hold a candle to linux...while in the sense that a seasoned linux user will be more efficient than a seasoned windows user. Luckily, microsoft has done an excellent job of adopting its office suite to corporations. For instance, I've been beta testing Vista for awhile and the next build of Microsoft Outlook is going to actually be a good improvement, even over an already very powerful product. Having used OpenOffice (linux,) it really doesn't compare to microsoft's capabilities. It all boils down to what the user wants to do "efficiently."

Anyways, considering all the system crashes, etc that Windows is prone to, Linux will almost always be a more efficient OS.

I have to with Windows, Linux owns but I'm really lazy and getting emulators is tiring. Luckily I have 2 HDD so I can chose which OS to boot

You don't even need 2 HD's to do it, just 2 partitions. our school laptops come preloaded with Ubuntu and Xp Pro...we just use GRUB.

I use Windows for everyday life, because it is much more convenient for browsing, art, programming and games.

I just use Linux for servers.

I don't use Mac.

i currently have a dual boot of linux and windows on my computer. I use linux for my programming and windows for writing my papers. as cript explained earlier, each os is strong in its own fields. I really like the ease of linux and its terminal. it makes programming very easy and quick. but the office applications on linux are not as good as on windows. microsoft office is definately a great suite of applications with word being the industry standard for writers of all kinds.

You guys using GRUB to choose too? or something else? and yes, open office for linux sucks, my unix prof made us write all our lab reports in it. I felt like crying all the time.

Well.....

Windows Pros:
-Great for office-related tasks (Spreadsheets and piecharts, as the Mac commercials say )
-Gaming.
-Most widely used.
-Easiest to use.

Windows Cons:
-Not nearly as stable as the other OS's
-Activation is damn annoying, especially when upgrading hardware.

Mac Pros:
-Great for media related tasks (Movie editing, image manipulation, etc.)
-Overall sexyness. Yes, I called an OS sexy. The hardware is pretty damn nice looking, too.
-Stability and lack of adware/spyware/viruses.

Mac Cons:
-Lowest software compatibility.

Linux Pros:
-Stable.
-Awesome for programming.
-Perfect for servers.
-No adware/spyware/viruses.
-If skinned right, also very sexy.

Linux Cons:
-Hard to install at times.
-PC apps work, but not without a lot of effort.
-Can be very confusing to those not technologically inclined.

There. Make of it what you will.

Yes I am also using GRUB . Question for you, do you know how to change the order of the OS's that appear on the GRUB list so as to say that if i didnt press anything, it would default into windows rather than kubuntu?

The file should be under "/boot/grub/menu.lst" or something like that. It is near the end of the text file. You can only edit it under something that understands *nix file systems.

I disagree with Linux not being user-friendly. Personally I found Ubuntu Dapper Drake to be very user-friendly. Ubuntu > Windows XP . . . Don't even mention vista anyone . . . And if you wanna mention that then Suse > Vista.

No no no I'm not a linux fanboy in the bit. I am still a primarily windows user.

Windows because I've never had a mac and haven't used Lunix. That's also why I didn't vote.

I'm going to try unbuntu today and possibly even swtich over long term. My question is, how difficult is it to run windows applications on unbuntu and is it possible to do so fullscreen?

My computer has more than enough power to do so, so I really don't think that'd be an issue
