Finding out that there is supportive evidence that there may be remnants of the so called "Atlantis" east of Cyprus. As described in one of a philosopher's prediction and story. What do you think of this? Do you think that Atlantis is real or what they found is just the ruins of a culture other than Atlantis. Discuss. Nad of Course Cyprus is in the Mediterreanan, while its supposed to be in the Atlantic..."Atlantic->Atlantis

Real... soon alot of places will go under water.. due to nature..
They say there is an active volcano underneath new york... if it erupts... New York, New Jersey, and Washington DC will go under water...

Nature is the cause of all of this.. like if you look at the difference of worldmap 1000 years ago and now.. europe and northamerica werent seperated.. insteadeurope and northamerica look like the fit like puzzles.. but not all the peices come together, because some of the places on the side went under water...

    Its all nature buddy...

Erm, 1000 years ago the world was practically 100% the same as it is today...

I'm not sure about Atlantis per se, but i definitely think that they'll find some ancient civilisations underwater, in a few years perhaps places like Belgian and Holland will be considered as modern day representations of Atlantis...

Try millions upon millions. Humans weren't alive then :p

Anywho... It is rather confusing that Plato in his usually being credible writes about Atlantis. I do not think this is an island that is underwater like the legend says but merely an island which possibly could have sunk. But at the same time people were being sacked around the european world at that time period by people who came from the sea. They know for a fact they were not vikings since it was too early at that time period but instead they theorize that there was a gang and that could possibly had started the legend. Honestly I think we'll never really know. The ruins could very well be of the civilization of the sackers. Buuuuuuuut... very likely it's another.

    Nostalgia.

I think that we would like to think it's Atlantis because we want to believe we found a civilizaion that many legends are based around. However, it is probably another civilization that was slightly before ancient Greece and was put underwater because of a natural disaster (ie. Earthquake/volcano). Not one that started out underwater.

I think it could just be a story written by Plato. Kinda of a sybolism type of deal. No matter how great you are, you can not escape the wrath of nature.
    This one is Cata's.

The devastating volcanic eruption of Thera in the Bronze Age (dated to ca. 1630-1600 BC geologically, but to ca. 1500 BC archaeologically) has become the most famous single event in the Aegean before the fall of Troy. The eruption would likely have caused a significant climate upset for the eastern Mediterranean region. It was one of the biggest volcanic eruptions on Earth during the last few thousand years.

That certainly could cause an island to sink but there just isn't enough evidence for me to believe it isn't anything more than a legend.

    atlantis is most definatly real..

    why?

    because i said so
    jk

ok seriuosly i was watching the history chanel and they were talking about this same exact thing. one of the dudes said that atlantis was located on the red sea before the egyptians and the mesipotamians. like right after the first ice age.and back then the red sea was like swampy, but not to swampy. so anyways, one day it got really hot and the ice from glaciers started melting so the water rose and the red sea became apart of the ocean and wiped out the city that wasliving on it.
this is what i believe beacause it was on the history chanel :)

It's fucking mythological bullshit, that's what. If it were real, a satelite would have found something by now. The only reason it's still alive is for people to exploit the name in order to make cold hard cash. But, not something I'm too worried about, because Greek Mythology sucks ass.

Adobe, you're thinking about the continental drift theory. Every year the continents move 1-2 cm further apart.

if two continents grow 2 cm further apart, then that means even more get closer. O_o

Scientists for ages have been studying the fault lines in the Eastern parts of the United States of America. Scientist believe that one day there will be an earthquake so powerful that it will cause a few eastern states to fall in to the Pacific Ocean. This will no doubt, change the shape of North America forever.

My point is, is that the idea of an enormous city to fall in to the ocean is not as farfetched as it sounds. Do I believe that Atlantis existed at one point? Yes, I do.
