I'm planning on giving Kubuntu a shot soon. The disks that I ordered God knows how long ago arrived recently in the post (which was a great surprise to me). XD

Lmao, everyone is using linux!
First:
$ Sudo apt-get install synaptic

Then

$ sudo synaptic

Enable all repositories

then reload...

$ sudo reload

then

$ sudo apt-get install opera

Also, I suggest Automatix:

Travis' instructions were good but I think somewhere along the line, he was wrong. Let me try tongue.gif

These are Simon's instructions to me, altered slightly:
$ sudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
Add at the bottom and save:
deb http://www.beerorkid.com/automatix/apt dapper main

$ wget http://www.beerorkid...apt/key.gpg.asc
$ gpg --import key.gpg.asc
$ gpg --export --armor 521A9C7C | sudo apt-key add -

$ sudo apt-get install synaptic
$ sudo synaptic

$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install automatix
$ automatix

A program will launch with a bunch of programs listed. Select the ones you want and then press ok. Opera will be in there.

It should reload all of your repositories...but if it doesnt, just do this instead:

$ sudo apt-get install synaptic
$ sudo synaptic

click reload in the top left. click search and search for automatix. in the search results, right click automatix and mark for install. click apply. back in the terminal type

$ automatix

and continue from there tongue.gif

Lol its not, the list isn't that big.
I think i know why.

In the part where you said to put
deb http://www.beerorkid.com/automatix/apt dapper main
at the bottom of the file and save it wont save...

The document could not be saved it was not possible to write to...

how did you get automatix to run without being able to save that into your sources.list blink.gif...

and did you add sudo before you did kate /etc/sources.list?

the command should look like this:
$ sudo kate /etc/sources.list

ok...i dont know lol

you can download opera here. remember to select the correct distribution: http://www.opera.com...?platform=linux

if you dont download as a .tar.gz, it comes as a .deb file. use this command to install it
$ dpkg -i <package_name>.deb

Ok... Why do you bother with synaptic?
Can't you just do apt-get update? And if you want to search for a package, why don't you use use apt-cache search <name>?

*gawd*, honestly...

BTW smart ftw

Add a sudo at the start of the line...

And if you really have to use apt-get repositories, use aptitude (instead of apt-get)... It handles dependencies alot better :)
