As some of you may have noticed, some of our key members have decided to leave the forum. Of course, we'd prefer for them not to leave, but it has thus far proved inevitable. In that case, we wish them luck.

Regardless, the NeoCodex staff members are doing our best to fix whatever the problem is that's causing them to leave. To do this, we're going to need your help.

What we're asking of you is to simply PM a staff member with any complaint you have, no matter how little or insignificant you think it may be, and offer your preferred solution with it -- our goal is to make NeoCodex the best forum possible.

Thanks,

The NeoCodex Staff

Ali, Suz, and Xth all left. Kinda sad, really. I liked them all :\ Or maybe there's more I missed, but I don't think so.

Get rid of programs biggrin.gif

Is that to get rid of leechers? Because a simple solution would be to lower restrictions back down to 1 post or get rid of them completely. Then you won't have to worry about leechers! biggrin.gif

To get rid of all of our problems. biggrin.gif Lowering to one post is exactly what we need. This 5 posts deal was good, but they just spammed.

Ali- REMOVED- Dont want to get in trouble for leaking
Suz- Did something stupid, check out banned section
Xth- Made a good life decision. Codex was effecting his grades. -I think everyone can hear about his. Ill let someone else say what happened with Ali-

I dont think member leave because stuff doesnt work/someone has done something wrong...

The good times of codex that I could remember is when everyone was a noob tongue.gif, all the members were still yaung, members had more time in their hands... now days alot of people became private and became inactive... alot of people left for personal reasons.. people left because high school wasnt that siriusn then they went to college.. and they got only 1 chance to succeed... people dont have much time on their hands... people got their own lives now.. they became more mature... and even though some members register and some are active its just not the same... different members... we were private... we knew everyone like our 5 fingers... no one was a side person... everyone who got lucky to register on time didnt waste their opportunity on blowing it off, but actually tried to become private/higher rank... now the doors are open we have alot of outsiders... people come in and come out...

I think the neopets section fell over the years... a year ago atleast 10/30 topics a day were made due to event or something on neopets.. in the last 3 months we had gotten 5/30 made in a day... nowedays I saw 1 in 1-2 weeks... 1we8.gif

Dont think codex is the problem...
We had loyal members now everyone is an outsider.... codex was once a much closer community.. before the doors opened...

Trouble is most of it couldnt be prevented, Xth had school stuff, Ali was right when she said that codex just isnt the same anymore.
Sure i havent been here that long (a few months to two years), but ive noticed a massive change since when i was a noob back with tetiel and balmung to now, things have changed alot.
And i personally think its time codex closed its doors once more, with all the new members we keep having, its hard to distinguish who is going to stay for a long time and who is going to leave.
In my opinion closing the doors to codex for a good six months will do codex alot of good, as before when it was close we all knew each other, knew who to stay away from if we didnt like them, and who to talk to because we knew everyone, its just not the same codex anymore.

Well It's not unnatural for members to leave a community, It happens. We all remember that one forum/game we loved but left for X reason. I think people just grow up, Then get burdened with responsibilities. If our lovely staff stays strong getting through rough periods of time like this shouldn't be a challenge. As ShadowLink stated in another post, The inactivity rate is normal and happens yearly around this frame of the year.

If you ask me about the leecher thing I would say pop it down to 1 post again. Some people only come to the community for the programs but end up liking it. Having a post requirement will make them destined to spam and end up getting banned. I think if we look back a lot of us really came to a community for programs and ended up staying. Same goes for me as well, I was one hell of a leecher. Ending up getting really dedicated and started learning programming to contribute to the communities. Basically if you have a 5 post limit the chances of them staying for the community is probably less since they will end up spamming/banned before they even have a chance sad.gif

I also observed that veteran member's attitudes towards new members has been a little out of line. Perhaps it would be better to make them feel more welcomed then to strike them with threats of getting banned. There's also no need to embarrass someone in public, It's not nice. If you see a problem just pm them and save them the embarrassment. I'm glad ShadowLink solved the harsh criticism problem in the GFX problem. Hopefully a crisis like that will not come up again. We should also stop the personal attacks towards old/new members, Again use the private message function. Invision Board has gifted us with the ability to talk to someone in private, Use it.

With all that said it still doesn't hurt to do a bit of advertising. As long as it's not breaking any TOS of any website or forum...We should be good. If we start to boost our member registration then by the time the slow period passes we should be a very active forum, Exactly how Codex deserves to be.

Cheers biggrin.gif

I dont think we need any new members to be perfectly honest, if codex advertises, then we will end up getting alot more leechers than anything.

I think closing the doors to codex, and having everyone with advanced member+ 5 invitations to send to people they truly think will thrive here

closing the doors would probobly do... and get the invintation system back...

We can also downgrade all private+ members who havent logged on in the past month and havent posted in the past month-2 months... so we can kinda have like a member clean up...

So we wouldnt have an overflow of privates...

Prune all of the inactive members who have 0-10 posts. Padora basically nailed what I think, but he can put it into word form much better than I can.

/goes back to studying. x_X

Hmm.. I like Calum's ideas.

How about we get rid of/change the post requirement to one to access the downloads, give it a few weeks to see what happens, then close registrations and make it invite only. This way, it can give us time to get to know each other again and after a few months, open registrations again.

That's basically what most people here have been saying and I think it'll work happy.gif.

Close registrations. Personally, I don't know what could be done to make the site better. It's the people that make a site good, and with the people that have made this site fun and interesting for me in the past.. are now gone.

Okay, I sent my long PM to sl, but Ill summerize it all here. sad.gif

Staff:
Stop being so obsessive compulsive.
Seriously, though, its outstanding how they've outlawed spamming to the extent where members are scared to go offtopic. Its sad.
Am I the only one that if they squint their eyes real hard, look up at the ceiling and stop to remember the old days, they want it back? Yeah yeah, Ive been here not so long, but I mananged to joined a bit after regestrations closed, causing me to no know every other active person. Back in those days, when I knew three people and attempted to fit in with logical posts, people didnt care about their offtopicness.
They put fun first. Now it's all about having a perfect little community. When was the last time people actually spammed and the topic maker didnt care/was doing it?
I betcha staff member was there to tell them to cut it out. 1we8.gif
Just .. staff .. stop stressing.

I think regestrations should be closed, too. Lets be frank. It was all better without a bunch of people grave digging and having one word posts. Invite system ftw. sad.gif
Codex is more of a program supplier then a friendship community, no?

Aiya. Wat about me?! = ="!!!!!! (remember Fantastic 5 LOLLL that was so lame dry.gif)

Yeaaa well. Times change, and if Xth has school stuff... he'll be back, even if it might be after university. xD It's like Hydrogen. However I must say... Silly Suz. =( And Ali... well in a sense she's right, socially codex has grown exponentially, and some people aren't adept to that, so I can understand, but am saddened that she left us.
