I think a newbie team would make no sense at all.

Newbies don't need help, that's what FAQ's are for. Did you need a "team" to introduce you to this site? No. What'd you do? Read or find out from experience.

Most people come for programs or from referrals. If they can't read, what are they doing on the internet?

Honestly, think real here, what kind of person actually reads the rules when they get to this site? I'm not even saying a team. Just people who are willing to communicate with the person for a couple days, if they respond. It's because the turnout of members who stay for more than programs have been low, from what I see, and if you can give them that time of day to be patient with them if they have any problems. The Faq is not the Codex bible. It isn't going to answer every question, but just general ones which are meant to be done in a professional manner. If you can get answers from people who are willing to talk to you, then it feels better than feeling like you have to bust up a bunch of ranks to be noticed. I'm not saying that you should offer "oral" services to newer members or go to extremes and bullshit a friendship, though. This is just what I see as being polite.

Aiya. Wat about me?! = ="!!!!!! (remember Fantastic 5 LOLLL that was so lame dry.gif )

Yeaaa well. Times change, and if Xth has school stuff... he'll be back, even if it might be after university. xD It's like Hydrogen. However I must say... Silly Suz. =( And Ali... well in a sense she's right, socially codex has grown exponentially, and some people aren't adept to that, so I can understand, but am saddened that she left us.

Was that the little inner graphics group me you and a few others were in? man i only just remeberd that, what happend though, we all used to be at the same skill level, then u and tetiel left me wayy behind, bad team tongue.gif

well one option would be to make it after a user signs up only able to read a topic about the rules then have them take a quiz about the rules and if they don't pass they get ip banned woohoo!!! <<--- best idea ever smile.gif

agrees that is why some of the modifications coming up and my idea about a member contest would help the board get some activities going.

Am I completely wrong here, or did you just describe a message board?

If you ask questions, there are people who are willing to talk to you.
Just don't sound like an arse.

You didn't get the entire message of the post, probably because I'm not being coherent right now, but anyways:

What I'm saying is that newer members who are not paticularly keen on talking might be a little bit more open with communication through the private messaging system. It sounds quite queer, I know, but it's worked before on boards I've been on in the past.

Honestly.

Who cares if we aren't talking about what the topic originally started as?

I don't o-o. The only minor thing is that if it's completely changed then people that only read the first three posts or whatever and post themselves will feel like idiots, but that'll just teach them to read, so meh tongue.gif.

I think it's very hard for the staff really, with registrations open and new members continuing to spam they have to crack down on them, so they might feel like they have to give us equal treatment, so we aren't allowed to spam either. I feel that if the new members didn't spam it would be more laid back, so I closing registrations would stop that, but I'm not sure it's what staff want for the site *so confused*. Maybe if us lot just make more topics that are meant for discussion of whatever and fun things, us older members can have some fun and it's entirely possible with topics like that we won't seem as intimidating to new members o-o.

Just a thought =3.

This is going to seem really dumb coming from a member who joined 2 days ago. But I believe if your looking to might a tight group of people and in a way make it like Cheers (where everyone knows your name). smile.gif The logical idea would be to close off registrations.

Have you ever been in gamerzplanet? Sure it's massive but compared to this place no one knows anyone. More people = more leechers.

But hey, I know sound stupid coming from me but think about it. It's a good idea.

P.S. Thank god I got here when I did! wink.gif

Well here are my thoughts.

Call it the Mentor system.

Whenever someone introduces them self a thread gets made in the Mentor Discussion forum that he/she is a new member and is in need of a mentor. A mentor replies to the thread saying something like "I'll do it". This way we don't have more than one mentor pm'ing this new member, It will keep it organized.

Isn't that adopt a newbie? whistling.gif

Advertise, new members ftw.

Advertising = Influx of non-contributing noobs who only want programs.

Considering that the main problem at the moment is new members spamming to get the downloads, i think we should close registrations for a while and possibly make the forum invite only (with limited invitations).

While the board is closed the staff can introduce the new mods which are being developed and they'll all be working properly for when the board opens again. It will also give time for staff to find ways to make the future new members contribute more rather than just spamming to get programs (p.s. my idea is the best) tongue.gif

But we're trying to have more fun at codex and not worry so much about off topicness sad.gif. Anyway it was a suggestion for adopt a newbie, and people got confused, it isn't really off topic anyway, surely?

No flame, I don't do that to people, ruins too many nice shoes sad.gif.

Problem with Adopt a Newbie was we tried it twice I think and it was VERY hard to keep the people who were adopted. But I remember the first and I was very pleased because I was adopted and the guy really, really helped me in GFX. So it can work, but only for some.

I wasn't adopted, but I did play adoptee last time it rolled around, the people that could have actually needed help didn't even hang around though, so I just had a load of people adopted that didn't need it anyway and were just there for fun tongue.gif.

Aah, that was a start of a beautiful marriage between myself and Joe *sighs*

I adopted Valiant, he was really cool but we stopped talking and he went inactive sad.gif. Seriously though we're running out of cool new members, I can only think of 2 people or so that I'll be voting for in Private. Both of which should of made it in last time 1we8.gif

I can only think of a few, and they have been around forever.

Really though, there is -no- incentive for remaining active.

I planned to take the programs and run, but then I got adopted. That's probably the only reason I stayed around and decided to be a part of the community. So, I think it's worth a shot. smile.gif
