[Hydrogen]

I have a TI-89 and after I replaced the batteries today it wont turn off . It keeps turning back on when I try to turn it off...This is such a waste of batteries and I don't want to use the trick of keeping a battery out until I need it unless I don't have to.

The calculator is pretty old but has never failed me before...

Any ideas on how I can fix this .

It wants to watch your every move. Taking a battery out is the only thing I can think of. or buy a newer one.

Something is wrong with it. I am sure you noticed. Sorry. No help except keep batteries out of it....

Sounds like it's time to buy a new one. But does it not automatically shut off after a couple of minutes anyways? It sat displaying a zero for that length of time won't be that stressful to your batteries.

You get insurance on it?
I got insurance on my 89T.
Never regretted it. Already used it twice.
Take your calculator down to Staples to see if you can get it fixed.
If they can't repair it themselves, they'll probably let you trade it in for a new for a fraction of the cost. Even if you didn't buy it from there. Go to the place you originally bought it from too.

Take out the battery, if your screen stays still for a while the characters get burned into the screen.
*I learned that from playing Bubble Bubble on mine and forgetting to turn it off*

Not your average calculator then? In that case it should definately automatically turn off after a period of it not being used, it can't be that bigger lost. Just looked it up and I'm surprised for that money it doesn't have two way power o-O.

Oh no...its definately not the average calculator . It is my best friend on tests and exams . There are so many functions on it...just to give you one example, it has this function called solve(), which takes in an equation and a variable to solve for. It solves for that variable doing all the necessary operations and gives you a number or an equation...depending on your input. It's just great . Definately not the average calculator . That's just one of its features too...this is like the best calculator on the market. It's actually banned on the ACT because of its features .

Anyway, i rotated the batteries within their compartment and the problem seemed to go away for a while. I'll see what happens next . I don't want to spend another $100 or so to buy a new one . I don't even have $100 .

Two-way power is out of the question. With the computations it has to make, it'd shut off trying to do those calculations if it ran on solar power. xD It takes a lot of juice to run.

I love that solve function. Works so nicely for so many things.
The only thing I don't like about it is how the matrices are done.
Not very primed for timed situations, but everything else is beautiful.
I love how it isn't banned on the SAT's tho. I was expecting it to be, but it isn't. 'Tis awesome.

So the fix was...rotating the batteries? Strange, but congrats Hydro!

Hydrogen, sometimes my computer starts up after shutting down! It's messed up; one time I shut down and ~10 minutes later it started to boot.
