Well, today I found out my mainboard was a piece of shit. It's really depressing. dry.gif
My current mainboard features 3 PCI slots and an 8x AGP Slot.
Which is a load of shit. I can't get crap out of that, so I'm off to by a new mainboard.
I was hoping to just fix my problem with a gfx card, but yeah, I found this out.
Sigh...
Any suggestions?

-edit-
At the very least, let me know of a good brand. 1we8.gif

more info?

CPU Brand
CPU socket?
type of RAM required?

and along with a new video card, you would probably need a new power supply because .......either

1. your power supply doesn't have a PCI-E power connector (6 pin for the video card)
2. its too weak to run any type of good card stably

AGP 8X still has very powerful cards like i have said your past thread, they're just overpriced and I recommend moving on.. WHEN YOU HAVE THE MONEY

Here is the best AGP card on the market
http://www.gecube.co...p;prod_id=65116

Not widely available 1we8.gif

I'm positive AGP 8x sucks ass.
I was told that my current gfx, which is 128 MB should be able to run Warcraft III no problems. Warcraft 3 for crying out loud. All the settings are set to MINIMAL. Shit-ass quality and everything.
Well, that's a load of shit. It lags a LOT. I have 40 ping at the most.
So yeah, I need a new MainBoard.
My current Process is a Intel P4 3.4 Ghz Processor.
I already have 2GB of ram, though I have no idea what brand it is or anything. Idk how to check too. It doesn't show up under My Computer -> Properties.

From what I've seen, a good budget brand has been Asus. Which is what I'm planning on getting. I would like an XFX, but it's out of my price rang. 1we8.gif

So yeah, lmk on good mainboards of those brands. Intel-Compatible obviously. Also, lmk on how to check the Ram I've got. Also, what's the CPU socket?
I'm a scrub at Hardware. Software is my game. 1we8.gif
I'll help you out in the software area of your comp if need be. wink.gif
Ty for the help so far though.

Well I run Warcraft 3 fine with a Geforce 2, 1.25 gb or ram and a 1.2 ghz processor. How many fps are you getting?

Socket 939 isn't too expensive, is ddr do you can probably resuse your old ram.

Are you shitting me?!?!?
A GeForce2?
What've you got? PCI-E or AGP.
blink.gif
I've got a GeForce4...
Not fair...

I haven't checked my fps, because I can tell on my own.
It's like .5 fps...
Ridiculously gay.
It jumps everywhere.
It stops, shows the next frame then stops again.
Horribly Crappy.

Just so you all know, that was how it was before, so I tried PCTools and TuneUp and TweakXP.... Yeah no go. sad.gif

Get a new power supply. It's not powerful enough to run your current setup stably.

PCI. My mobo supports AGP though.

What resolution are you running warcraft at?

I tried both 1024 and 640. Both lag like shit.
It's ridiculous.
Dolphin: is the power supply a component in the computer or just the cable?
In the computer there's a sticker saying it can run 115V at 7A and 230V at some other ampage.
Is that what I need to change?

Arch, just because you have a shitty video card doesnt mean AGP sucks... I would NEVER tell someone any type of MX could play warcraft fine because it wont. any MX or FX series nvidia is pretty much the worst card you can get.

Results on Counter-Strike Source Stress Test, 7800GS @ 520/1440 AGP

around 120fps average

1280x1024
ALL High
Lighting on "Reflect All"
HDR on FULL
anisotropic filtering on 16x
anti-aliasing on 4x

Arch, go download CPU-Z from http://cpuid.org/ and post a screenshot of the CPU tab.

Ty soo much for your help Fatal.
It means so much to me.
Sorry if I offended you about AGP's. I just found that PCIe was 4x faster than an AGP. So I thought AGP was ghetto. xD
Here are my pics.

Spd Tab: (Slot 2 is the same, just a diff serial)

Ok well you're CPU is socket 478. They DO make socket478 motherboards, but they're micro-ATX.. and pretty ghetto.... so you would either need to upgrade to socket 775, which would require a new power supply, new motherboard, new cpu, and then a new PCI-E video card... and only a few Socket 775 motherboards support DDR1, and pretty sure none support DDR1 and PCI-E.... so there is that limitation again. I have 2 Socket 775 boards with DDR1, but they only support AGP.... both work fine, so post back deciding what you want to do tongue.gif

or if you went AMD like hobo suggested..

you would need:

new cpu
new video card (PCI-E
new motherboard
new power supply that is better and supports PCI-E

so its pretty much the same either way..

if you went Intel...

new cpu
new video card (PCI-E)
new motherboard
new power supply
new ram (DDR2)

So I might as well throw this piece of shit in the garbage.
Sigh...
Wanna compile a new comp for me? lookaround.gif
I mean if you're bored and all.
I'm a dumbshit with hardware...
Just tell me what to buy and all buy it.
I have no idea what I need to get or anything... unsure.gif
Sigh...
I just want to play Warcraft 3... Is that so much to ask?

Well if you're going to throw it out mail it to me instead? tongue.gif. It doesn't make sense that you can't run Warcraft, my computer is like 1/2 of what yours is an runs smoothly (for the most part)

And you can re-use your cd/dvd/hard drives. And your case tongue.gif

or you can get a DECENT agp card..... and just wait till you're ready, dont forget about that option, they DO make AGP cards that are cheap, and still game.

or

http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814122009

X1650XT will win out of those, but 7600GT is a better deal if you do the rebate

tell me though if you still want a list and I'll be happy to make one if you give me a price cap

Sigh... A list would be nice, since I'm pretty sure this computer just stinks. 1we8.gif
Let's see...
new cpu -160
new video card (PCI-E) -160
new motherboard -130
new power supply -60
new ram (DDR2) -Oh shit, this shit is fuckin expensive... Sigh... I guess 210.
That adds up to 590.
600 is the price cap. blink.gif
Think you could do enough with that. lookaround.gif

1st off, AGP is still slowly being support
2nd off, its PCI-E, not PCI, they're different
and 3rd, AMD64... thats a bit old. AMD64 would refer to a single core, which is even worse.

3700 is still good.. if you say overclocked like a bitch, im guessing about 2.7 or higher smile.gif I mean 3700 isnt a dual core or anything, but it will still do great in current games (since most aren't multi threaded anyways..

As I like to say, I have a T7200 in my laptop (which is a core 2 duo, merom core which is the same as a conroe, just mobile and clocked at 2ghz) and its my fastest computer I own smile.gif

Intel E6300 - 183 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819115005

ASUS P5B - 120 http://www.newegg.co...82E16813131030R

Hiper Type-R 580w - 90 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817128006

TOTAL: 640 WITHOUT TAX/SHIPPING

Tell me if you need it cheaper, I can make stuff cheaper by getting stuff from the open box area, cheaper parts, etc but really you should wait to ask me till the day you're ready to buy, shit changes dramatically EVERY DAY.

Revised Edition (Cheaper)

Intel E6300 - 183 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819115005

ASUS P5B - 92 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131030

eVGA 7600GT - 110 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130062

PNY 2x1GB 667 - 137 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820178134

Hiper Type-R 530w - 80 http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817128002

TOTAL: 602 WITHOUT TAX/SHIPPING

And I can continue to cheapen it up without losing TOO much quality

Thank you so much.
You just switched the ASUS mobo links around.
Looks good though.
I'll be ready to buy like this weekend hopefully.
I'm just wondering if this is overkill, because all I'm going to use the comp for is a bit of Warcraft 3, and the rest, posting here. biggrin.gif
Thanks so far tho dude. biggrin.gif
