your current rig probably isnt TOOOOO old... i mean its not like a 2000 rig 1we8.gif SATA is good

Reasons:

Faster interface
Smaller, cleaner looking cables
SATA drives (hardrives in particular) support 2 types of power cables, you can use a basic 4 pin molex cable, or a SATA power cable
About the same price for the cable, cheaper if you know how to bargain hunt

Cons:

Not many DVD/CD drives support it yet
SATA hard drives USUALLY cost literally a few dollars more (oh the misery, oh jeeze, wtf would i do with that 2-3 dollars?)

LOL no you're fine, all new motherboards support IDE, just the newer intel's only support 2 IDE devices instead of the normal 4 like most boards

Ftw...
Don't I need a mobo that supports 1 IDE for the DVD and 1 SATA for the HD then plugs for everything else...?

the mobo you would be getting has 5 internal SATA ports, and 1 external SATA port, so you have more than enough SATA ports for future upgrades and everything, and for IDE you can have up to 2 devices, so if you have 2 ROM's you can use both, or if you have 1 rom drive, and a IDE hardrive, you can possibly do that too if the cable is long enough
