i haven't had any problems with it besides some minor problems with vs2005. what programs are you going to be using, so we can tell you about any known incompatability issues?

If you plan on gaming.. I wouldn't recommend it for what I've heard. Other than that, it's quite a nice OS. Been on it for quite a while and it's working great for me.

Okay, Vista is shit. I had it and nothing is compatible with it, NOTHING. Not only that, but it's slow and if you send your friends files chances are they won't be able to open them.

Vista is crap.

Stick with XP. Better yet, switch to Linux.

I wouldnt even switch until they stopped supporting XP.

The only thing that got better was the GUI.

Besides that, it still sucks.

vista is great if you can find drivers and your hardware is decent enough. It has great wireless support, excellent power features for laptops, looks very nice, and you can continue to see it improve. It has DirectX 10 which is essential if you're going to play new games such as UT2007 and Crysis. I'm not sure, DX9 might work decent enough on UT2007 but I know positively on Crysis it will be retarded and probably will have extremely limited, if any support for DX9. Just because your hardware isn't good enough, does NOT mean the OS sucks. It simply means that your technology isn't up to date and thats it. If you guys didn't know, Vista still has the classic theme thats supposed to be similar to 2000. That will help performance greatly on shittier computer and will allow you to play DX10 games.

Yeah but more than half the reason to upgrade to Vista is the interface..

They did shit about their security features; the little box that asks you before you click anything isnt very helpfull.

I think that Vista actually became less user friendly than XP.

If you really want Vista, consider buying a Mac instead...After all, Microsoft copied practically all the features that was in Mac OS X.

What was the point of that? To start, it was a joke, so calm down and don't just go name calling - that's really immature. Second, Linux is an open source system that does not have a lot of compatible virus protection and firewall material, which makes hacking into it a hell of a lot easier.

only reason for me would be DX10, about 90% of the reason I would switch it DX10, other 10% is looks

I will be switching back to vista the day a DX10 game comes out smile.gif

I would wait. I tried it last week and was very unhappy with it. I just encountered loads of errors, such as it not recognizing a lot of my important hardware, such as my sound, video, ethernet, etc. despite Vista Advisor telling me I would have no trouble at all. Even though it was easy to get all of the updated drivers for them, I was just unhappy with all the trouble I had to go through when I was told that I would have no trouble at all.

It's not really that much of an improvement over XP. The new interface is nice, but you get tired of it fast and if you really want it that bad, just get a Vista transformation pack. The internet speed boost is good but after all the trouble I went through to get settled, it wasn't really that worth it to me. Also like philywilly said, if you are into gaming I wouldn't recommend it.

All in all, just wait. It's not worth the trouble at the moment.

You could have just ignored it and moved on, but then you had to go and prove my point. whistling.gif You know absolutely nothing about Linux; don't try to act like you do.

What the hell? There are hundreds of Linux-compatible firewalls(eh; pf, ipf, ip). As for the anti-virus software it's pretty useless really as there are no widespread worms/virii for Linux that I know of.

I'm pretty sure firewalls and anti-virus software isn't as common on Linux as there are virtually no viruses that can do any damage.

Sure, Linux is open source, and it can be updated weekly because of that. wink.gif
Windows isn't updated that often, is it?

You sir are definitely wrong! It doesn't have as many known viruses because of the backbone architecture of the kernel the whole principal to linux was to provide a free safe OS which it has done it doesnt get as many viruses end of. Writting a virus for linux is a ver very hard task..

Yeah the internet speed is abit of a folly really, yes it does seem alot faster maybe 3-4x faster but this is becuase they have completely fucked around with the TCP Stack instead of doing what mac did and play with the sizes and frames microsoft decided to delete some authorization and error checking... pah!

Linux updates to improve code or add something new, very rarely are there security breeches. Windows on the other hand releases update to 'patch' a known hole LOL

Ill wait until im pretty much forced to upgrade which should take a good couple of years or more. It sucks that in order to get aero graphics you need the right card and what not.

Its really unstable right now with a lot of drivers. You should be especially wary of going 64-bit edition as you will have even less suport.

Personally I have a legitimate version just sitting here waiting while I triple boot Ubuntu, XP and Windows 95.

I have heard many people say that it is a nice new operating system however not so nice that you should go and upgrade right away. If you have windows 95 though you might want to. I used to have that and oddly enough it had some features that my XP does not blink.gif
