I love firefox, but it takes up an unbelievable amount of CPU, my laptop heats up so much it's scalding and then it shuts down

Memory Usage: 128,535 k
CPU Usage: 87%

So whats a good alternative? OTHER than IE 7

I'll have to hop on the bandwagon and suggest Opera.

The only thing I don't like about it is the inability to use Firefox extensions, but it's not like I used a whole lot of them, so I can deal with it tongue.gif

Erm, I'm pretty sure that the developers' version of Firefox is like a streamlined version of FF. I don't know the breakdown on CPU usage stats, but I can tell you that it definitely is more mundane than FF. Its called SeaMonkey, and its pretty rad.

I'd check it out before trying another high RAM usage program like Opera.

Last I remember Opera is extremely efficient in everything it does along with being the fastest HTML rendering engine.

@Stone:But...IE 7 is kinda cool. Any reason you want to avoid it?

Opera slows my computer down worse than FireFox.

I use Flock. Its specially designed for media users. It was based off of Firefox.

IE 7 sucks because of ActiveX, Opera sucks because I just don't like it and FireFox is way better because of the stuff you can do with it and use it for if you know what I mean. rolleyes.gif wink.gif Also the best alternative is to get a ram upgrade tongue.gif

Opera sucks because of the interface / not customizable enough
IE sucks because of the interface / not customizable enough
firefox sucks because without perfectly set tweaks/plugins, its a pointless browser because of its speed
netscape.. eh havent used it in a while so I cant give much of an opinion, but last time I checked it was similar to IE 5/6
Safari... havent tried it in a while, I MIGHT be on a mac tomorrow so i'll check it out if I can

still firefox wins out of the 3 though IMO

I use firefox. You should try reinstalling firefox.

If you have to switch use opera or maxthon.

IE is really not that bad, the only advantage that firefox has for me (PERSONALLY, not saying it applies to anyone but me) is that firefox has adblock, IE has similar popup blocker/etc but it doesnt work near as well. I have never seen a situation were firefox has saved me from a virus or something

Opera would be better if it was more customizable and was better at ad blocking. I found it hard to remove ads that firefox + ad block got rid of.

I would suggest SeaMonkey(Formally Mozzila). It works just like firefox but it isn't as intensive.

<Bandwagon> I'll say opera. NetScape is just outdated, you don't want FireFox(The best out there btw),neither do you want IE(No idea if it's good or bad but would have been my 2nd choice)</bandwagon>
