This is set approx 20,000 years ago and is about a group of people that find a 5 year old child orphaned by an earthquake. They take her in and care for her. The author researched this time period extensively and so her books are accurately detailed, although I must admit sometimes she does include a bit too much detail, but it's easy to skim read those parts.
These are fantastic books and I recommend you all to read them
