This is the first in a set of (so far) 5 books by Jean Auel. Brilliant in many ways, this is truly one of my favourite series ever. This is set approx 20,000 years ago and is about a group of people that find a 5 year old child orphaned by an earthquake. They take her in and care for her. The story is about the challenges she comes across living in a group where she is the odd one out. The group that took her are neanderthals whereas she is not.
The later 4 books show her journey to find out who she is, and find her own people.
I will say that this probably isn't recommended until 15+ due to certain scenes being... inappropriate for younger audiences.
The author researched this time period extensively and so her books are accurately detailed, although I must admit sometimes she does include a bit too much detail, but it's easy to skim read those parts.
These are fantastic books and I recommend you all to read them
